The NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) course is an essential program for individuals who want to become NRA Certified Instructors. This 6-hour course, which must be completed within the previous 24 months of taking an NRA Certified Instructor Course, aims to equip instructors with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude to teach NRA Basic Firearm Training courses. By following the lesson plans and training standards set by the National Rifle Association, instructors will learn how to effectively teach others using NRA methods.

To enroll in the NRA Certified Instructor program, it is required to first complete the NRA Basic Instructor Training course. During the class, instructor candidates will receive the NRA Basic Instructor Manual and other relevant materials. The age requirements for NRA Certified Instructors are 21 years or older, while NRA Assistant Instructors must be 18 years or older. There is also an opportunity for individuals aged 13-17 to become NRA Apprentice Instructors.

It is important to note that the NRA Instructor Courses are performance-based, and instructor candidates must demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude to successfully complete the training. The courses are open to individuals who are not disqualified from possessing a firearm, in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws. Individuals with a history of convictions for violent crimes are automatically disqualified. Additionally, in compliance with U.S. Federal ITAR Regulations, students must be U.S. Citizens or Legal Residents with a Green Card.
