Join artist Pamela Martinez for a 2-hour introduction to Orizomegami, the traditional Japanese art of decorating papers through folding and dying techniques. This workshop, titled "Orizomegami: Japanese Paper Folding & Dying Workshop," offers participants the opportunity to learn about this ancient technique that has been practiced in Japan and around the world for centuries. During this 2-hour workshop, participants will explore the Zen-like folding process of Orizomegami, which encourages mindfulness and being present in the moment. Through four basic paper folds, attendees will discover the art of creating intricate geometrical patterns that come to life when the paper is unfolded. The workshop will also involve experimentation with non-toxic dye solutions, resulting in beautiful papers that can be used in future art projects. Hosted at the Japanese Culture Center in Chicago, this in-person workshop welcomes participants ages 10 and up.
