The AIARE Level 1 Course consists of a flexible online curriculum, followed by two field sessions in the backcountry. The online education portion allows students to learn at their own pace, and it typically takes 4-6 hours to complete. Additionally, there will be a 2-hour Zoom meeting with instructors to go over additional education topics and answer any questions. During the field sessions, students will gain hands-on experience making decisions in avalanche terrain and review avalanche rescue skills. With a student-instructor ratio of six-to-one, participants can expect maximum support and learning opportunities.
