Details

SheJumps and The Mountain Guides have partnered to offer a women's specific AIARE 1 Avalanche course and optional Avalanche Rescue Course in Whitefish, MT. Led by The Mountain Guides, these courses provide comprehensive training in hazard evaluation, decision-making, and companion rescue in avalanche terrain. Participants will learn from experienced AMGA-trained and certified ski and splitboard guides, who will teach techniques for evaluating hazards and managing risk when traveling through avalanche terrain. The AIARE 1 course follows a hybrid learning model, with access to an online learning module one week before the course launch. An evening video chat session with the instructor will be held two days before the field days, where participants will review the online learning, discuss the current avalanche hazard forecast, and plan the tours. The Companion Rescue course offers an opportunity to learn and practice companion rescue skills, providing participants with the competence and confidence to manage worst-case scenarios. These courses are suitable for downhill skiers and boarders who are comfortable riding black diamond terrain at the resort or ungroomed backcountry snow on slopes up to 30 degrees. Participants must travel on touring skis or splitboards during the course. If you are new to touring or want to enhance your skills, consider taking the Backcountry Essentials course. Registration for these courses must be completed through The Mountain Guides website. The Level 1 AIARE course costs $495, while the Level 1 and Avalanche Rescue Course can be taken together for $690. Please note that guide gratuities are not included in the course cost, and a tip of 10-15% is highly recommended. To prioritize the health of the community, participants are advised not to attend the event if experiencing any cold-like symptoms. SheJumps is committed to increasing the participation of women, girls, transgender individuals, cisgender individuals, and non-binary people in outdoor activities. They also strive to fight against racism and acknowledge the Indigenous lands on which their events and programs take place.
