SVBC Basic Bike Repair (VTA) is an informative workshop presented by the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC). This in-person event is designed to teach attendees the essential skills needed for basic bike repair. Participants will gain practical knowledge on three key areas: Air, Brakes, and Chain/Cassette. The workshop will cover essential topics such as fixing a flat tire, determining the correct air pressure for your tires, and removing and replacing wheels. Additionally, participants will learn to diagnose and make necessary adjustments to their brakes, as well as how to ensure smooth and quiet movement of their chain across the cassette and chainrings. The workshop will also address other related issues as time permits. This 2.5-hour class welcomes individuals aged 14 and above, and it is highly encouraged to bring your own bike to work on during the session. Past attendees have praised the workshop for its hands-on approach, with one participant expressing satisfaction in being able to practice tube patching. Another attendee felt more confident in their ability to fix their bike, which ultimately led to increased cycling. The workshop also raised awareness about the importance of regular maintenance and prompted some participants to invest in new tools to keep their rides in optimal condition. SVBC Basic Bike Repair (VTA) is provided free of charge to the public, thanks to funding from the 2016 Measure B, courtesy of VTA. However, each participant's absence represents a wasted cost of approximately $150, funded by taxpayers, as resources cannot be recovered. Therefore, it is essential to honor your commitment and attend the workshop if you sign up. Attendees can look forward to receiving a patch kit and a set of tire levers as a token of appreciation. SVBC Basic Bike Repair (VTA) will take place at the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition's location at 155 S. 11th St, San Jose, CA 95112. Participants can access motor vehicle parking in the lot behind the SVBC building, while bicycle instruction and parking are available in the outside fenced courtyard, weather permitting, or inside the building in case of rain. Entry to the venue is through the back gate. Join us on April 6, 2024, for this valuable and informative workshop.
