Dave Wilson, veteran broadcaster, and Al Unser, Jr., two-time Indianapolis 500 champion, take the stage at Indiana Landmarks Center to chat about racing and track culture at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a National Historic Landmark.
A Speedway native and lifelong Indy 500 fan, Indianapolis radio personality Dave “The King” Wilson served as a commentator on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network from 2003 to 2020, though fans may know him best for his time on the Bob & Tom Show (1983-1995), WIBC’s afternoon show (1995-2009), and his many years as a stand-up comedian appearing at venues and clubs across the country.
Al Unser, Jr., followed in the footsteps of his father and uncle to become a repeat champion at Indianapolis, winning the Indianapolis 500 in 1992 and 1994. A rookie in 1983, he was the first to compete against his own father in the same Indianapolis 500. In the 1992 race, he defeated Scott Goodyear by 0.043 seconds, the closest finish in Indy 500 history. Unser completed his 19th Indianapolis 500 in 2007, having logged seven finishes of fifth or higher, and currently holds ninth place in all-time “laps completed” standings (3,173). Among his more remarkable achievements, Unser won the challenging Long Beach, California, road race no less than six times, including four years in succession, 1988 through 1991, and his career IndyCar Series wins total 34. He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2009.

Indianapolis is most famous for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which hosts the Indy500 race. I stayed overnight nearby to have fun here without getting too tired.
When I drove here, the venue was quite large and the road was under construction at the entrance, so it was easy to miss. During the period, I asked two passers-by, who were very polite to show me the way.
To get to the racing museum, you have to drive through a tunnel, but you have already entered the racing venue. Parking is free. The museum ticket is $10, and a lap of the track plus the commentary is a total of $20 per person. The commentator is very interesting. I took pictures and watched as much as I wanted on the track. It was worth it, but the sun was so strong! There are many racing cars on display in the museum, and there is also a Mario special exhibition.
