The Reitz Student Union in Gainesville is proud to present the screening of "The All-American Cuban Comet" documentary on Wednesday, March 27th at 5 p.m. This compelling film tells the inspiring story of Carlos Alvarez, a Cuban immigrant who overcame discrimination through his love for football. Known as "the Cuban Comet," Alvarez became a record-breaking receiver at the University of Florida and a source of inspiration for others adapting to life in a new country. Alongside his athletic success, Alvarez fearlessly advocated for athletes' rights, civil rights, and against the war in Vietnam. This nationally broadcasted film is part of ESPN's SEC Storied doc series.
