We are delighted to welcome Jenn Ashworth back to the shop for the Manchester launch of her latest work, The Parallel Path. About the book: Burnt out and longing for an escape, Jenn Ashworth emerged from lockdown with a compulsive need to walk - and to walk away. Armed with little more than the knowledge imparted by a two-day orienteering course and a set of maps, she embarked on the most epic of English walks: Wainwright's Coast to Coast.
Guided not just by Wainwright's writing but also by daily letters from her friend Clive - facing an epic journey of his own - Jenn's pilgrimage soon becomes more than just walking: a chance to reconnect and excavate, to re-engage with the act of caring for others and for oneself.
But the walk's tricky terrain is not the only thing standing in Jenn's way. As days go by, her balance begins to fail her and the act of putting one foot in front the other becomes a new exercise in caution. When a vicious heatwave forces her to pause her expedition and gives her an opportunity to investigate the new limitations of her body, Jenn is confronted with a life-altering diagnosis - and a new path of self-discovery. About the author: Jenn Ashworth was born in Preston and studied at Cambridge and Manchester. Her novels include A Kind of Intimacy, The Friday Gospels and Fell. She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2018. In 2019 she published Notes Made While Falling, a memoir told in a series of essays, followed by the novel is Ghosted: A Love Story which was Shortlisted for the Portico Prize in 2022. She is a Professor of Writing at Lancaster University. Tickets are £4.00. Admission is free when purchasing a copy of the book. Oxford University is a public research university with a traditional collegiate system. It&#39;s the oldest university in the English-speaking world, and has a significant number of Chinese students. It has 39 colleges, with classic and elegant campus architecture and 4-5 museums. I stayed one night and two days, which felt like enough time. It&#39;s conveniently located, just over an hour by bus to London. It&#39;s not large; you can mostly walk. The late autumn scenery is stunning. Renting an Airbnb costs around 700 RMB per night, which is worthwhile. The culinary arts college requires an entrance fee; it&#39;s become commercialized. This was my second visit.

The Bridge of Sighs (Oxford University, UK) is officially called Hertford Bridge. It is a famous attraction at Oxford University. The construction of the Bridge of Sighs began in 1913 (completed in 1914). It crosses New College Road and connects the old and new parts of Hertford College. It is a famous attraction at Oxford University. It was designed by Sir Thomas Jackson. Because the bridge is similar to the Bridge of Sighs in Venice, Italy, it is called the Bridge of Sighs. I came to Oxford University with a tour group and could only take a quick look.

It is one of the oldest libraries in Europe (opened in 1602) and the second largest in the UK after the British Library. library. This is one of the 6 statutory libraries in the UK. All Oxford publications will be automatically sent to this collection upon publication. There are many branches under the library, among which the Radcliffe Camera branch has become an important landmark of Oxford University. Many books are stored here, and non-Oxford University students can also visit it. Bodori Library is composed of a group of buildings of different historical periods and styles. It is said that there are underground passages connecting each building.
