The Riverwards Arts & Letters (RA&L) Salon Series #2 is a bimonthly exhibition and publishing pilot that showcases the captivating fusion of visuals and words. H&H Books, located at 2230 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19125, is proud to host this unique event on November 17, 2023. The Salon Series aims to create a neighborhood hub where talented Riverwards-based/ -connected artists and writers can share their work, encouraging collaborations and the creation of published pieces. During the Salon, which is open and free to the public, three artists and three writers will have their work on display. Artists like Lou, Holly Jansen, and Manuela Guillén will captivate visitors with their artistry. Lou, a passionate artist and storyteller, explores the concept of home in her pieces, while Holly Jansen specializes in traditional and digital illustration and design, incorporating traditional techniques into her digital creations. Manuela Guillén, a freelance painter, muralist, and digital illustrator, draws inspiration from plants, tropical colors, and her cultural upbringing. The Salon also features talented writers such as Lauren Ballester, Vriddhi Vinay, Mary Zhou, and Miriam Saperstein. Lauren Ballester, a queer, mixed Dominican-American writer, delves into the subject of mothering, while Vriddhi Vinay, a South Indian writer, researcher, and poetic anthropologist, explores themes such as anti-colonial art and South Asian feminism. Mary Zhou, an artist based in Philadelphia, uses writing, dance, and visual art to explore devotion, identity, and the body. Miriam Saperstein, a mixed-media artist and writer, combines research, spiritual practice, and artistic crafts to delve into decomposition and Jewish ritual histories.
