Little League® International Baseball and Softball is thrilled to extend a warm invitation to all league volunteers to participate in the Umpire Academy in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. This prestigious academy will be held from April 17-21, 2024, at the renowned Little League World Series Complex. The Umpire Academy offers an exceptional opportunity for volunteers to join our dedicated Little League Instructors in Williamsport. This five-day program, exclusive to individuals aged eighteen and above, will be held at various locations including the Dr. Creighton J. Hale International Grove Dining Hall, Recreation Room (2nd Floor), and the field facilities at International Headquarters. This comprehensive week-long session will cover a wide range of topics, including rules, regulations, and interpretations for both baseball and softball. Participants will also gain expertise in the mechanics of the two-umpire system, along with valuable insights into the philosophy, mental approach, and attitude required for Little League Baseball and Softball. The academy will delve into handling game situations, maintaining control, and exploring three-and four-umpire systems. Enrollment for the Umpire Academy is limited to a maximum of forty participants, ensuring an intimate and focused learning environment. In the event of inclement weather, all field exercises and plate work will be conducted indoors, guaranteeing uninterrupted training sessions. The academy fee of $280.00 per student covers the cost of housing in Little League International Dormitories and three meals per day from Wednesday to Saturday, as well as one meal on Sunday. Each student is required to bring their own equipment, including an umpire hat, indicator for balls and strikes, baseball glove, mask, and complete plate gear (if available). The preferred uniform for the academy is heather or charcoal gray umpire pants, a black t-shirt, black shoes, and a black belt. This invaluable umpire training experience is tailored to ensure that each volunteer is fully prepared before the season commences.
