Details

Join the Ambivalent Archives Network for an enlightening workshop on community archiving with Meera Shakti Osborne. Taking place on March 15, 2024, from 17:00 to 19:00, this event will be held in Room S1, First Floor of the Alison Richard Building at 7 West Road in Cambridge. The Ambivalent Archives Network is dedicated to exploring the complex and critical engagements with archives that have emerged in recent scholarship and archival practices. Acknowledging that archives can both exclude and obscure information, this network provides an interdisciplinary space to investigate attitudes of uncertainty and speculation towards the archive. The network was formed following a successful four-session reading group in Lent 2023, which brought together various individuals interested in critical archival thought. Topics discussed included the constitution of archives, the challenges of archiving marginalized voices, and the embodiment of archives. Building upon these discussions, the network will expand its focus to include textual and literary archives, postcolonial archives, and intimate and community archiving. The network's approach incorporates both theory and praxis, with alternating reading groups and speaker events. Each term concludes with a creative workshop led by Ambivalent Archives and a visiting artist. Participants are encouraged to engage in their own personal archival practice, documenting themes and topics of their choosing. These workshops, combined with the reading sessions and speaker events, create a space for reflection and exploration of our archival practices. Tickets for the workshop will go on sale on February 24, 2024, at 4:00 PM. Don't miss the opportunity to be part of this thought-provoking event.
