This incredible new exhibition celebrates the work of artist and fashion designer Yaku Stapleton and offers a glimpse into his inspiration. Envisaging New Briggate's Tomorrow showcases a collection of new garments that pay homage to the rich clothing, textile production, and tailoring heritage of New Briggate and beyond. As part of East Street Arts' Hidden Histories of New Briggate project, this exhibition presents a reimagining of clothing for the communities of Leeds, both present and future. Through three distinct 'looks', Yaku explores the influence of Jewish immigration on tailoring, the fashion of visitors to the street's bars and jazz clubs, and the creation of costumes for the legendary Leeds West Indian Carnival.
