The 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE) runs November 5 to 10, 2026 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. According to the official CIIE announcement, registration for overseas professional visitors opened on May 28, 2026, through the CIIE website, app, and mini program. This guide covers who can register, how badge pickup works, and where to stay and get around during the expo.

CIIE 2026: Visitor vs Exhibitor Registration

CIIE separates its participants into two groups with different requirements, and it is worth being clear on which one applies to you before you start.

This guide focuses on the overseas professional visitor path. If you are exhibiting a booth, your registration and document requirements go through a different channel with your exhibitor contact.

How to Register for CIIE 2026 as an Overseas Visitor

Registration is online only. Onsite, walk in registration is generally not available, so this step has to happen before you travel.

• Go to the official CIIE website, the CIIE app, or the CIIE mini program, and select "Business Exhibition — Visitor — Registration."
• Submit your organization's information and the details of everyone from your company who plans to attend, including passport information for each visitor.
• Wait for review. Approval or rejection is sent to the email address used at registration, and admission is only confirmed once your information is approved and any applicable payment is completed.
• If you registered for a previous CIIE, check your email for a one click registration link, which speeds up the process.
• Once approved, you can use the Online Matchmaking Platform to share your procurement or investment interests, browse exhibitor information, and see pre event activity updates.

Because approval takes time, register as early as possible rather than waiting until close to the November dates.

CIIE 2026 Badge Pickup: What to Expect

Once your registration is approved, you get to choose how you receive your entry badge.

• Badge delivery. During registration, you can select delivery to a mainland China address, which is convenient if you will already be in the country or have a hotel or office that can receive it ahead of the expo.
• Onsite pickup. If you choose in person collection, your account status will change to "Badge Ready for Pickup" once it is ready. Coordinate with your registered organization, since the pickup typically goes through your designated unit.
• Where to collect. The Registration and Badge Management Center is located on the first floor of the QUBE Hotel Shanghai Hongqiao, inside Hongqiao World Center, at No. 200, Lane 1588, Zhuguang Road, Qingpu District, Shanghai. This center also handles lost badge reports, replacement badges, and onsite emergency registration.
• What to bring. Bring a notification SMS or email and a valid passport when you collect your badge, or when you request a reissuance at the reissuance window.

Keep your badge on you at all times once inside the venue. The National Exhibition and Convention Center has strict access control during the expo, and you need a valid badge to enter or exit.

The venue, often called NECC or referred to locally by its four leaf clover shaped building, sits in Hongqiao, Shanghai, right next to Hongqiao Airport and Hongqiao Railway Station.

• By air: Flying into Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport puts you closest to the venue, and it is a short taxi or metro ride from the terminal.
• By train: Hongqiao Railway Station is one of China's busiest high speed rail hubs, connecting Shanghai to Beijing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, and other major cities. It sits directly next to the venue and the airport.
• By metro: Metro Lines 2, 10, and 17 all serve Hongqiao. Expect heavy crowding on expo days, especially in the morning before sessions start and in the evening as the day wraps up. Build in extra time if you are traveling during peak hours.
• By car: Rideshare and taxis can reach the venue, but road access is often restricted or congested near the entrances during the event, so factor in delays.

Because the airport, railway station, and venue are all within walking distance of each other, Hongqiao is the most efficient base if getting to the expo quickly matters more than anything else.

Where to Stay for CIIE 2026

Two main options make sense depending on what you are prioritizing.

• Hongqiao area. Staying near the venue cuts your daily commute to a few minutes and avoids the worst of the metro crowding. Hotels here fill up quickly as the expo approaches, so book early. This is the better choice if you are attending multiple full days and want to minimize travel time.
• Downtown Shanghai (People's Square, the Bund, Jing'an). Staying downtown means a longer commute, typically 30 to 45 minutes by metro or car depending on traffic, but it gives you more dining, nightlife, and sightseeing options for the evenings, and often more hotel inventory and pricing flexibility than the Hongqiao area during a major expo week.

If your schedule is packed with back to back meetings at the venue, Hongqiao is worth the premium. If you plan to combine the trip with sightseeing or client dinners around the city, downtown works well as long as you budget extra commute time.

How Many Days Should You Plan For the CIIE 2026

CIIE runs six days, from November 5 to 10, 2026, but most business visitors do not need to attend the entire event.

• 2 to 3 days is enough for most procurement or buyer visits focused on specific exhibitor categories.
• 4 to 5 days suits visitors attending forums, matchmaking sessions, and multiple exhibitor meetings across different halls.
• Add a buffer day on either end for jet lag, badge pickup if you did not choose delivery, and travel between the airport, hotel, and venue.

Business travelers combining CIIE with other Shanghai meetings often add one or two extra days before or after the expo dates.
