Hong Kong to Shenzhen - Immigration

One of the biggest perks of taking the high-speed rail from Hong Kong to Shenzhen is the “co-location” immigration arrangement. You’ll clear both Hong Kong departure and Mainland China arrival formalities right inside West Kowloon Station, meaning you don't need to queue twice at the border. Here's exactly what to expect:

  • Step 1: Prepare your documents and health code in advance.

You’ll need a valid passport, Hong Kong ID card (if applicable), and any applicable China visa or Mainland Travel Permit. Crucially, you still need to complete the digital China Customs Health Declaration before scanning your ticket. Do this via the “China Customs” mini-program on WeChat or the dedicated app, and save a screenshot of the generated QR code. Later it will be scanned before you reach the immigration counters. If you’re traveling with kids or seniors, their declarations can be filled in by you.

  • Step 2: Go through Hong Kong departure.

Once past the ticket gates, follow the signs for “Departures” on the B3 level. You’ll first pass through Hong Kong immigration e-channels or counters. This process is usually very quick if your documents are ready.

  • Step 3: Walk through the corridor.

After exiting Hong Kong, you’ll walk through a short indoor corridor, which means you’re now technically at the Shenzhen port. Have your QR code ready to be scanned.

  • Step 4: Enter Mainland China.

You’ll then reach China immigration counters. Present your passport or travel permit, give fingerprints upon request. Once stamped, you’re officially in Shenzhen. Proceed to the high-speed rail waiting area one floor up. The whole immigration process, from first scan to reaching the platform, usually takes 15 - 25 minutes, but during peak holidays (like Chinese New Year or National holidays), it can take up to 45 minutes. We recommend arriving at the station at least 60 minutes before departure for a stress-free experience.
