Not great considering the cost to stay. We had to wait 10 minutes for someone to turn up at the reception, and then we had to ask twice for assistance to check in.
Little to no hot water (tepid would be accurate) meant we had to walk out of the complex (with towels and toiletries) and down the main street and back into another room at the other end of the complex to take showers - both nights! Not at all pleasant as it was quite cold and very inconvenient.
And the spa didn’t work and was out of operation. Probably due to no hot water.
No lift meant lugging suitcases up a lot of stairs and no one to help.

I did a road trip through the North Island and picked up this hotel because it was right in between Rotorua and Wellington
The room had everything ready in case you wanted to bring some dinner there such as a microwave, kettle, dishes, etc (it did not have a stove inside the room but maybe you can use the common area)
I have to say, out of all the hotels I stayed at in Australia and New Zealand over the course of 2 weeks, this one was the only one that had a proper WiFi internet in the room. Meaning that I was finally able to watch streaming services such as Netflix without any problems (I cannot say the same for the internet at the Hilton Sydney!)

Originally I only booked an ordinary superior room, but we arrived early. The front desk said that the room was still being cleaned, so they were very considerate and upgraded us to Deluxe Twin Room for free! The environment is really good, close to the lake, the accommodation is on the first floor, and the second floor is the restaurant and other public facilities. I like the breakfast room on the second floor, which is said to be the best in the town.
But I can't praise the sincerity of the hotel's service. We arrived at night, and we were greeted by a Chinese who claimed to be borrowed from another hotel to work the night shift. I learned that the owner of the hotel is Chinese. There are several stores in the town, so it is understandable that the staff are shared. But the following few things are very strange and make people doubt whether this store has professionalism and evil intentions:
First, we were arranged to stay in a room. After settling down, we checked the original order and found that it was inconsistent with the room type picture in the order. We found the receptionist and responded that it was a mistake because he was not familiar with it. He agreed to change it and showed enthusiasm to help move the luggage. We forgave him temporarily;
After checking in, we found that there was a device failure and called the waiter again. He came to fix it himself. At this time, it was known that he was not a temporary help and was not unfamiliar with the situation in the store;
At breakfast the next day, one of us went to breakfast first and found that there was only a small area with simple milk, cold bread and other foods. He asked the waiter (still the same person) why there were so few. He brought an English menu and said that there were freshly made dishes here, but they needed to be paid separately. When we came to eat, the waiter still swore that it only included a simple breakfast😰. It is not uncommon for breakfast restaurants to make breakfast according to customer needs. Our hotel room included breakfast fees, so how could it be just simple milk and bread? At this time, the waiter started to call someone, and a white woman came. After a few simple conversations, it was immediately OK. At the same time, it also reported to Ctrip, which booked the hotel. After verification, Ctrip apologized and comforted. A wonderful journey, beautiful scenery, and a beautiful breakfast were almost ruined by the waiter. The most ridiculous thing is that he swore that this is the case here, and a single order will be charged separately. After proving that he was wrong, he also added that the store where I work charges separately;
Another detail that happened later proved his problem again: when we communicated with the white staff and got OK, she brought over a Chinese and English menu. Recalling that the Chinese waiter only handed over the English one. At this point, there is no doubt that it was intentional before. To put it nicely, it was done by the employees themselves. If they were caught, they would collect black money to make extra money, but there was obviously no price on the menu. Is this blind or low IQ? ! The waiter also introduced himself as working here after graduating from a graduate program in New Zealand. I suspect that the hotel owner instructed them to test the waters with Chinese guests. When someone raised a question, he said that the waiter was unfamiliar with the situation and made a mistake. If he got away with it, he would get away with it. If the waiter was really unfamiliar with the situation and made repeated mistakes, the hotel is also responsible. Since it is a hotel open to the public and the price is not cheap, shouldn't it be equipped with professional and well-educated waiters? Isn't it a serious discount on the service if someone who is not trained and unfamiliar with the situation comes? !
Fortunately, Ctrip is guaranteed. Afterwards, it has received a 300 yuan consolation payment. It is recommended to bring a swimming ring or surfboard from January to March. There are no restaurants around, so we brought instant noodles and tomatoes on our backs. After eating a few days later, we took a 10-minute taxi to the Landing Cafe next to Terawera Lake to eat. The beach was very lively on a sunny day, filled with children and adults with dogs🐶 Come and play in the water. The lake is crystal clear and opposite is a volcano. Free parking is available on the street right outside the hotel, if you can find a spot. The front desk kindly gave us two cans of M&Ms at check-in, which was a nice touch. It's very close to the food street next door, just a 5-minute walk downstairs, and also very close to Lake Rotorua. On a clear day, you can see it easily. The park in front has ducks, pigeons, and geese.

Overall, I was very satisfied. The accommodation was incredibly warm; in fact, on winter nights, it was almost too hot to sleep comfortably. It was well-equipped with kitchenware and bathroom essentials, perfect for preparing light meals. The only slight inconvenience was parking; there's a steep driveway, but it wasn't a significant problem. Its location on the main road made it very convenient for getting around. We booked a two-bedroom suite, one room with one queen bed and the other with four single beds. The hotel has a spa pool and two separate rooms in the spa pool, the water is flowing, so don't worry about health issues. Small kitchen and allow you to cook simple meal. Night time bit cold and heather make us feel warmer. Definitely will come and visit again.
