Not great considering the cost to stay. We had to wait 10 minutes for someone to turn up at the reception, and then we had to ask twice for assistance to check in.
Little to no hot water (tepid would be accurate) meant we had to walk out of the complex (with towels and toiletries) and down the main street and back into another room at the other end of the complex to take showers - both nights! Not at all pleasant as it was quite cold and very inconvenient.
And the spa didn’t work and was out of operation. Probably due to no hot water.
No lift meant lugging suitcases up a lot of stairs and no one to help.
Certainly wasn’t a great place to stay. Think we could have stayed somewhere better at half the price and less trouble.FromVND 4,116,699

This hotel far exceeded our expectations! The room was incredibly spacious with amazing window views. Every day, you can get fresh milk from the dairy farm downstairs, it's basically an all-you-can-drink setup. The hotel's location is super convenient; there's a bus stop right across the street, and the tourist information center is just around the corner. Highlight - amazing service from all kaimahi onsite, especially the lovely Māori wahine at the reception service. she was amazing! and the kaimahi during the breakfast service.
the breakfast was on point! and views from the room was choice.
Could be better - just the physical hotel. There was only elevator that toom 20 seconds from 2nd floor to Ground floor (has time to count), and I did have issues with room cards. My only pet peeves :-)

Have stayed here several times before, but first time that rooms weren’t ready until 3.5 hours after check-in time. Housekeeping was under the pump as the hotel was fully booked. A bit outside of Rotorua with nothing but a small convenience store nearby is what made me rate the place as only a 3 out of 5. No ATM or restaurants nearby makes it a bit of a hassle. If you don't mind taking the car its just a few minutes to the city and it's close enough to the tourist attractions.
Rooms are clean and so are all the towels and sheets.
Staff was helpful when asked upon.

I was really pleasantly surprised when I stayed at Distinction Hotel this time!
Originally I only booked an ordinary superior room, but we arrived early. The front desk said that the room was still being cleaned, so they were very considerate and upgraded us to Deluxe Twin Room for free! I really didn't expect it~ and the staff were super polite throughout the whole process, which made me feel very warm.
The room was bigger than I thought, with two large beds that were soft and comfortable, a desk and two comfortable blue sofa chairs, which were very convenient whether I was sitting and browsing my phone, drinking coffee or packing my luggage.

The environment is really good, close to the lake, the accommodation is on the first floor, and the second floor is the restaurant and other public facilities. I like the breakfast room on the second floor, which is said to be the best in the town.
But I can't praise the sincerity of the hotel's service. We arrived at night, and we were greeted by a Chinese who claimed to be borrowed from another hotel to work the night shift. I learned that the owner of the hotel is Chinese. There are several stores in the town, so it is understandable that the staff are shared. But the following few things are very strange and make people doubt whether this store has professionalism and evil intentions:
First, we were arranged to stay in a room. After settling down, we checked the original order and found that it was inconsistent with the room type picture in the order. We found the receptionist and responded that it was a mistake because he was not familiar with it. He agreed to change it and showed enthusiasm to help move the luggage. We forgave him temporarily;
After checking in, we found that there was a device failure and called the waiter again. He came to fix it himself. At this time, it was known that he was not a temporary help and was not unfamiliar with the situation in the store;
At breakfast the next day, one of us went to breakfast first and found that there was only a small area with simple milk, cold bread and other foods. He asked the waiter (still the same person) why there were so few. He brought an English menu and said that there were freshly made dishes here, but they needed to be paid separately. When we came to eat, the waiter still swore that it only included a simple breakfast😰. It is not uncommon for breakfast restaurants to make breakfast according to customer needs. Our hotel room included breakfast fees, so how could it be just simple milk and bread? At this time, the waiter started to call someone, and a white woman came. After a few simple conversations, it was immediately OK. At the same time, it also reported to Ctrip, which booked the hotel. After verification, Ctrip apologized and comforted. A wonderful journey, beautiful scenery, and a beautiful breakfast were almost ruined by the waiter. The most ridiculous thing is that he swore that this is the case here, and a single order will be charged separately. After proving that he was wrong, he also added that the store where I work charges separately;
Another detail that happened later proved his problem again: when we communicated with the white staff and got OK, she brought over a Chinese and English menu. Recalling that the Chinese waiter only handed over the English one. At this point, there is no doubt that it was intentional before. To put it nicely, it was done by the employees themselves. If they were caught, they would collect black money to make extra money, but there was obviously no price on the menu. Is this blind or low IQ? ! The waiter also introduced himself as working here after graduating from a graduate program in New Zealand. I suspect that the hotel owner instructed them to test the waters with Chinese guests. When someone raised a question, he said that the waiter was unfamiliar with the situation and made a mistake. If he got away with it, he would get away with it. If the waiter was really unfamiliar with the situation and made repeated mistakes, the hotel is also responsible. Since it is a hotel open to the public and the price is not cheap, shouldn't it be equipped with professional and well-educated waiters? Isn't it a serious discount on the service if someone who is not trained and unfamiliar with the situation comes? !
Fortunately, Ctrip is guaranteed. Afterwards, it has received a 300 yuan consolation payment. I hope that in the future, it will strengthen the review and supervision of this type of non-standard homestay hotel services to protect the interests of tourists, especially to avoid possible traps in overseas travel. I didn't expect that even today, I would still encounter traps set by Chinese people against Chinese people.

Our stay at the Black Swan Hotel was truly amazing. Originally, we were booked at the Hana Lodge, but due to renovations, we were moved to their sister property in the heart of Rotorua. Despite the change, we were pleasantly surprised by the excellent service.
The room amenities were incredible. We had a free mini bar that was replenished daily, a large, comfortable bed, and breathtaking views of the lakes. The room was exceptionally clean, and all the staff members were incredibly helpful and courteous.

We had a comfortable and enjoyable stay at this hotel. The room was clean, spacious, and well-appointed with everything we needed for a short stay.
One thing that would have made the stay even better is if the room had included a washing machine. While laundry facilities were available on-site, having a washing machine in the room would have been much more convenient, especially for longer stays or for those traveling light.

Many people come to the Blue Lake in RVs and yachts. Needless to say, the scenery of the Blue Lake is so beautiful. Sitting by the lake relaxes your teeth and scalp. The resort has separate toilets and shared toilets/bathrooms. Mostly locals come for water sports and swimming/camping, very few Chinese tourists. It is recommended to bring a swimming ring or surfboard from January to March. There are no restaurants around, so we brought instant noodles and tomatoes on our backs. After eating a few days later, we took a 10-minute taxi to the Landing Cafe next to Terawera Lake to eat. The beach was very lively on a sunny day, filled with children and adults with dogs🐶 Come and play in the water. The lake is crystal clear and opposite is a volcano. The room is large, has everything you need, except maybe a washing machine, but it (and a dryer) are on the hotel grounds, for coins. The staff is friendly and willing to help. We stayed 3 nights in a private room at Rock Solid. The first room we got assigned was just below the lounge area and given the walls are so thin it really seemed like a group of people was in our room. The manager was very nice and moved us into a different room- walls still thin but at least in a different location vs the first room. The hotel used to be a private mansion with every detail. The hotel is facing Lake Rotorua, the room has a wide view, five minutes drive from the skyline and ten minutes from the downtown. The hotel has its own paddock, where horses and sheep graze leisurely on the slopes. Breakfast can be cooked to order, and the lamb in the kiwi breakfast is very good. It was very comfortable to take a walk in the courtyard after eating breakfast. The hotel staff was warm and considerate. Some regrets were that because of the self-service on the skyline, I didn't try the dinner at the hotel. I have a chance to try it next time. There is a study room on the second floor of the hotel. The hotel is clean and tidy, with convenient transportation and easy parking. There is a supermarket a few minutes' drive away. The room also has a full set of kitchenware for self-catering. The first thing I did after checking in was to have afternoon tea on the balcony in the winter sun. In addition, the bathtub is very large and comfortable. The Chinese lady boss is very welcoming. The room I originally booked was a large bed plus a sofa bed. The young owner took the initiative to help us upgrade to a family room. |0.75km from city centerWe reached there after their check in time but hotel give very clear instructions and make check in smooth. We have 4 of us and the cabin is nice to stay for 4 persons. Small kitchen and allow you to cook simple meal. Night time bit cold and heather make us feel warmer. Definitely will come and visit again.

No ATM or restaurants nearby makes it a bit of a hassle. If you don't mind taking the car its just a few minutes to the city and it's close enough to the tourist attractions.
Rooms are clean and so are all the towels and sheets.
Staff was helpful when asked upon.
The place has a bar, restaurant, sauna, pool and gym so everything one might want.
