Top 10 Kandinsky Hotels

We stayed for two days around our wedding, and everything was magnificent. The staff was incredibly responsive; we requested a larger room with a terrace, and they accommodated our wish. Upon check-in, we were greeted with a lovely complimentary dessert and a bottle of Prosecco in our room, which was an incredibly pleasant surprise. The bed was soft and very comfortable, ensuring we had excellent sleep. The room itself was spacious, and we could even order breakfast to our terrace, which offered an impressive view of St. Isaac's Cathedral. Speaking of breakfast, it was delicious and diverse, featuring desserts, salmon, vegetables, blinis, caviar, and Prosecco. You could also order à la carte. Our room was 537, one of those with large terraces and a direct view of the cathedral, making it perfect for wedding or any other photography.

I rate it from the standpoint of price-quality ratio. What is quality in a 5 star hotel and why will I never return to Astoria? The devil is in the details: this is not only the presence of comfortable beds, bathrobes or slippers (although here they turned out to be “easier” than in other 5* hotels in St. Petersburg), but, above all, this is the service for which every guest comes. In Astoria, there was a feeling that you had to constantly ask and remind for service: to bring suitcases, bring a coffee machine to the room (from the second reminder, the maid who came simply killed with an arrogant phrase: “limit, one capsule per person per day” ***?). In the evening, guests are served Alenka candy (very frivolous for a hotel of this level, especially if it has its own line of chocolates from chocolatiers, which are sold in a nearby store). When checking out, the deposit was returned only after contacting the hotel, two days after check-out, which also had to be reminded. There are no welcome drinks (which is the norm for other 5* hotels in St. Petersburg). In general, if you are looking for 5* service, book the Grand Hotel, Helvetia or something like that. Maybe in the suites with a view of the cathedral there is enough space, but we took a standard room and its ergonomics turned out to be a little strange (for example, the door in the bathroom rests on the sink, it’s impossible to get through). In fairness, I would like to note the extremely polite communication of the staff in the entrance area, the girls at the reception and the wonderful bar in the hotel lobby, with excellent coffee and desserts. But you can get into it without booking a room in this hotel.

I was able to check in half an hour before 3 PM. The front desk staff spoke fluent English and provided a detailed explanation of all the facilities. I didn't quite catch everything after that, but it seemed like they mentioned something about using the Four Seasons across the street for a bath, possibly a partnership. Since I didn't need it, I didn't try it. The room size was adequate, but it might be primarily for business travelers as there was no luggage rack, making it a bit inconvenient to open a large suitcase. Breakfast included both a buffet on the table and à la carte options. The menu, as shown in the photos, included items like Eggs Benedict and omelets available for order. The buffet items were a bit standard, not much different from a typical four-star hotel, mainly offering pancakes and two types of smoked fish. Service was excellent. Doormen were consistently there to open doors and remind me if my taxi had arrived. The most important aspect is the location. This hotel is situated between the Winter Palace and St. Isaac's Cathedral, and it's about a 10-minute walk to the Mariinsky Theatre.

Lovely hotel with amazing location in the city centre, great service, the staff is very helpful and friendly. Absolutely delicious and abundant breakfast including traditional Russian pancakes, red caviar, variety of egg dishes. Special thanks for the checkout gifts a jar of honey and the hotel signature perfume.

This is the first time I've ever experienced this level of service from hotel staff. Their attention to every detail, from the hotel and room introduction during check-in to the delightful complimentary box of pastries and chocolates upon check-out, was truly outstanding. The hotel's restaurants are a story in themselves, offering astonishingly high-quality dishes and once again, incredibly friendly and welcoming waiter service. The hotel and restaurant manager has clearly done a fantastic job with the staff. Breakfast at 5:30 AM à la carte is just top-notch. I highly recommend the pampushky at the restaurant to all foodies – they're incredibly delicious even on their own!

The hotel is just next to St. Isaac's Cathedral, 10 minutes from the subway station and about 10 minutes from the Winter Palace. The English language at the front desk of the hotel is very good and the service attitude is very good. The room was very comfortable and tidy, our twin room, standard single bed. The restaurant on the first floor of the hotel is also good. It is too cold to have a night, so you can eat it directly. It is not expensive!

This is a fantastic hotel. Although small, it has everything. The butlers and doormen make you feel like royalty, and the champagne and chocolate check-in ceremony is a truly special occasion. The rooms are beautifully decorated, and it's close to major attractions.
