Visited many times for family meals and looked forward to the outside area serving light lunches again. Very dissatisfied with today's lunch for my birthday. No pizzas, seemingly replaced by focaccia with toppings. Massive fail in our option. Everyone left the large stodgy lump of bread with a slight topping on. Will still go for inside meals but outside needs a rethink in my opinion.

My rating was for the lunch time menu I’m afraid. We were looking forward to a country pub lunch time menu, but instead was met with an expensive ‘evening’ type of menu with not enough variety. The lovely waiter had to keep apologising as he seemed to have been dropped in the deep end with no training. There were several attempts at what drinks were or were not available. Yes we have Peroni, sorry we don’t. Yes we have a house wine, sorry all we have is a wine list. We asked for tap water and were brought a bottle that was not at first, just to mention a few hiccups. He really tried his best and we felt he had been let down & it wasn’t his fault. We have always loved the place, the location, but obviously now run by someone else. It is some years since we have been, but the menu for lunch time, for hikers, general public bobbing in as we did, is lacking in choice and too expensive. There were few customers which I think says something.

Booked for my mums birthday in March 24. We were seated near the side door, it was opening and closing every 2 minutes and we were cold. Asked to be moved, but was told they would lock the door. They simply but an internal bolt on the outer door, people still kept using the door by opening the bolt. We were up and down putting the bolt back on, not impressed and was not offered to be moved. Ordered food, starters fine but my main, pork, was undercooked, tough and just a really poor cut of meat. Couldn’t eat it and complained. The initial response was “we can cook it more” and “do you want a steak knife”. I asked to speak to a manager, a blonde lady came about 5 minutes later when everyone else had nearly finished their meal and offered a replacement saying she would take it and “see what Chef said”. I declined a replacement as I didn’t want to be eating on my own. I was told the bill would be adjusted and puddings were on them. Never saw the manager again. As well as my meal being awful, the vegetables and cauliflower cheese were tepid at best. This is a top rated restaurant / hotel and they live on their reputation, however, it’s not always about how you are treated when everything is going well, it’s about how you are treated when it goes wrong. This was appalling trea**ent, I felt staff were disingenuous with an air of arrogance because of their usual high standards. The whole experience, sat in a wind tunnel being cold and the bad cut of pork, ruined a family occasion. My compensation? My meal deducted, just the main and free puddings worth £15.00. I felt this was no where near enough to compensate our experience. Have been many times over the years, not sure we will be back.

Lovely food so fresh and well cooked. Very good priced. Really worth travelling for. You will not be disappointed. Staff very helpful and go out of there way. Specials change like soup and pie of day daily. All dishes were out of this world. The truffle gnocchi was very good. My favourite dish I've had this year.

Tasting menu for two was excellent. Lots of tastes and variety, this was a visual treat spread over 2 hours, it was nice not to feel rushed which some places tend to do. A tasting dish came out every 15 minutes. The dessert courses were beautiful. Attentive and informative service, each dish explained carefully. Husband had the wine flight which he loved and accompanied the food to perfection.

We had a family birthday celebration at Shibden Mill Inn. Beautiful location, a**ospheric building, attentive staff and a wonderful meal. The starters were so tasty and original. The roast beef was outstanding and the Merlot most palatable. Memorable meal!

We were truly spoilt and well looked after for our family of ten birthday celebration meal. Arriving early for a pre dinner drink we were shown upstairs to a very comfortable lounge area before going into a private dining room. The ambiance was spot on and made even ore special by all the lovely attending staff. The food was well prepared, tasty and served in a time manner. Overall the evening went extremely well, thanks to all the amazing staff and the delicious food We shall be back
