Hotel Slipway Reviews

The hotel occupies a large area and the room size is also large. However, it is very simple, similar to a homestay. Moreover, there should be mites or other bugs on the bed. After staying for two nights, both of them had several pimples inexplicably, which were red and swollen but not itchy, and they did not disappear after four or five days.

The staff are friendly and there are many restaurants and shops, so it is suitable for both family and business trips. The facility is a bit old, but it is well maintained.

It was all going well until Sunday! On Sundays, they host a pool party, it starts at lunch and as I type it is still going on at 10pm. The noise is horrendous, to the point that it was not ok to sit in the room so we went out and came back at 9pm as we were told the music stops then. Well, it doesn't and despite many attempts, it is still going on. We were told the hotel is full so we couldn't be moved to another room so I guess we are not getting much sleep tonight. Apart from this, the hotel is fine; average, good location, food is decent and staff and friendly.

A group of educators from Virginia visited this summer & we had a great stay. From the moment we walked into Slipway. the staff were all welcoming and supportive. We checked in really late and Venant was extremely helpful and patient with us. During our stay, we had access to the shopping area and lovely bookstore! I will certainly be retuning here mostly for the service.

Second time here, a great hotel though the service around the pool has dropped and the wait for food has increased.

I’ve stayed in this hotel a few times and it’s usually reliable. This time however it was not and I had to move rooms several times due to various maintenance issues. Despite a recent renovation one of the buildings needs another round of repairs. The staff were helpful when I brought the issues to their attention but there doesn’t seem to be any senior management presence. The breakfast also badly needs an update. All rooms should have mosquito nets too.

I stayed in the standard room and the executive room with ocean view. Pros: Convenient location with restaurants, bars, and juice/coffee/tea shops. Live bands at the restaurants at night. The standard room was recently renovated. Cons: Wifi was spotty in the standard room. The air conditioner was installed at an odd spot, the closet was blocking most of the cold air coming out of it. The shower was not properly sealed, water leaked through the gaps. The sofa and the cushions were old and smelly, like they were never washed/cleaned. Both rooms were not ready past the check in time.

Rooms are nicely done. Spacious, with a fridge and kettle. Decor is swahili style, very nice. Staff are very friendly and efficient. AC worked very well. The restaurant for breakfast is a nice big airy open area near the pool. The breakfast buffet is really good. The real bonus for Hotel Slipway is the location and concourse it is in. Lovely restaurants, coffee shops, retail outlets, pharmacy, carvings etc all available from within. Really like this place and stay here whenever I am in Dar. Prices are competeive too. 5 star facility really

A good way to end out 3-week safari to Tanzania. Great location, excellent food and service, nice room with very comfortable bed. Interesting shops nearby, both formal and informal. We enjoyed the Waterfront Restaurant for several meals, and liked the breakfast buffet as well.

Back in Dar I wanted to stay at Hotel Slipway again as I had a great stay the last time i was in Dar. I was not dissapointed this time either! Nice, clean room with balcony and seaview. Got my breakfast brought to my room and enjoyed it so much on my balcony overlooking the sea. Asante sana!

Excellent location by the sea, lots to do around the Slipway. The staff is very helpful and polite

Great location with the possibility of enjoying the room but also go out and do some shopping on a terrace with a great vibe. Rooms are very comfortable, big and very clean. AC is working perfectly and is very silent. Excellent pressure of water for a great shower. Good interent. Friendly staff. Excellent management. Very good value for money I can strongly reccomend it both for tourists and business stay

We arrived at the slipway with the expectation of a 4 star hotel with decent facilities. Unfortunately we were disappointed with the suite room (smelled of smoke) and the facilities that were tired and dated. Very noisy air conditioning that forced us to turn off and have a poor nights sleep in the heat. Positives were the great seafood meal at the Waterfront restaurant overlooking the sea.

We only stayed here for approx. 8 hours to sleep before an early morning flight. The hotel looked okay in the dark and the receptionist who checked us in was very friendly. As we were leaving early in the morning she ordered breakfast boxes for us but unfortunately, these were not ready for us by the time we left. The room smelt musty and was a little dated but it was okay for a few hours sleep. We had a lovely meal at the Italian restaurant. The hotel site was very busy and noisy. Luckily we did not hear this in our room and had a decent night's sleep. The transfer vehicle was waiting when we arrived at reception in the morning. At this time the area outside was strewn with rocks and debris. We later found out a drink driver had crashed into the garden the evening before.
