Tired, soulless & poorly maintained holiday cottages. We booked several for our group & had a miserable experience. Instead of “luxury” we found mattresses curled by previous sleepers, cracked tiles, showers that don’t drain, keys that don’t work properly & flickering electricals. The well sized rooms were minimally finished making them echoey & cold. Most dangerous of all one apar**ent was found to have a strong smell of gas on arrival, traced to the kitchen stove being left on. The staff were slow to respond to complaints & attempted to gaslight us with ill informed & misleading alternative explanations to avoid taking any responsibility.

Had a nice stay here but the bed in Cottage 6 was very uncomfortable as the mattress had definitely seen better days. As soon as I lay on it I could feel the bed frame on my back. This was a real shame as the rest of our stay was very enjoyable especially the beautiful hall and grounds..

Awful. food was overpriced and didnt match the menu, service lacked any conviction room was dreadful. no lifts, flat beer and pool was overun by swimming lessons. The jacuzzi machine was not working and you could not see the tv from the bed. why bother?

This could be a lovely hotel, but was let down by lack of a**osphere and disinterested staff (with the exception of the waiter/sommelier). The food was delicious, but the Clock Tower restaurant described on the website was not in use, and the room in use had clinical lighting and no a**osphere. Our room (11), had a fantastic view, but we were not offered help with our luggage up two steep sets of stairs. Bathrobes only arrived after I requested them. Overall, disappointing, and no response from these comments direct to the management.

Great locations and beautiful grounds. Reception area in a weird place as it’s been dumped in the entrance hall and doesn’t feel very inviting, as a hotelier I would have moved it further in the atrium area so that guests are invited in further. We stayed in cottage 7 which was very spacious and value for the money for two nights. Only issue we encountered was the smell from the drains that’s all I could smell during our stay. Cleanliness wasn’t 100% and could have been better but overall wasn’t too bad. Also restaurant prices are a bit strange Veg Pie for £25 which seems very steep whereas fish and chips and burgers only £18. Probably would stay again but maybe in the summer as weather was wet and cold during our stay.

We had high hopes having booked the Atrium room for our 23rd anniversary. Initially, we were disappointed by the very worn, oversized seating which felt cluttered by oddly placed furniture. The cheap metal edging around the floor tiles under the bath was loose, sharp and a trip hazard. The rain leaked in and made the tiled floor at the top of the steps leading into the Atrium and dangerous slip hazard. The pillows on the bed were cheap and thin…. But our worst issues was a constant droning from all of the radiators in the room. We had very little sleep! We felt the restaurant was good but the steak very overpriced at £32 as it was over seasoned/salty. Generally the staff were lovely and welcoming although our concerns were acknowledged but no apologies given….. This hotel didn’t deliver what we felt it advertised. We wouldn’t recommend a stay.

We stayed at the hotel in 2022 but on this visit we found it looking tired. For this visit we stayed in one of their self catering lodges. Pros: Nice grounds Friendly staff Lodges are a good size Warm Cons: The bed! It was incredibly lumpy and uncomfortable. The mattress sagged in the middle. Although the bathroom was large there was no where to put your toilet bags, a shelf or something would have been helpful. The lodges are in a square with a path that goes round the front of them. Unfortunately there is limited lighting and some of the path has small potholes which makes it quite dangerous when it is dark. There are no mugs just small t cups, if you like a mug of coffee in the morning take your own mugs. No iron.
