Located in picturesque Goshen, VA, the inn boasts cleanliness, comfortable rooms with antique charm and modern luxuries like a jetted tub. Friendly hosts enhance the experience with local insights and thoughtful extras. A notable downside is proximity to noisy railroad tracks.

The Hummingbird Inn was excellent. Sandra and Jeff were great hosts. The room was quiet and comfortable and nicely decorated. The breakfast was delicious. Sandra recommended the Tavern at Warm Springs for dinner and even made us a reservation. Food and setting were great. Highly recommend booking a stay at the Hummingbird Inn.

Excellent place for a quiet getaway. My wife and I stayed there because it was close to the Virginia Transportation Museum's 611 steam train excursion. Jeff and Sandra are wonderful hosts. The Inn was clean and very quiet. The hosts will not let you want for anything. We would definitely stay there again.

We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. We left feeling like we were leaving family after a trip home. The Inn was better than any hotel we could have booked. The breakfast was the best. I can’t list anything we didn’t like and highly recommend the The Hummingbird.

The warmth of Hummingbird Inn surrounds you from the seatings, comfortable beds and historic atmosphere to the delightful owners, Sandra and Jeff. There are various rooms to enjoy depending on your preferred seating style, fireplaces inviting you to sit a while, and several outside locations to enjoy surrounding nature as well as the wonder at trains passing and reliving a time passed. Breakfasts delightful and freshly made. A stay at this Inn is a welcomed respit from the rushing about in our lives, relax and breathe in the fresh air and soak up the history of the region. Already planning on a Spring return with family. We wish to share.

Met at the door by the innkeeper who made us instantly welcome and comfortable. The inn is old yet modern. Old in the fashion that there are beamed ceilings and wide plank floors and modern in that the necessary facilities are in place and up to date. The Hummingbird is a find and a treasure.

Did you know? The Hummingbird Inn is actually named after a passenger train, "The Hummingbird," that ran through the area many years ago? If I didn't tell you, Sandra certainly would have. Sandra and her husband Jeff own and run the Hummingbird like characters out of a fairy tale. Sandra is a bubbly, gracious, and generous host. From the moment my new wife and I arrived, she was caring for us like her own children. Her husband, friendly and hardworking, is more often seen in the background mowing the lawn, painting fences, fixing whatever is broken, and brewing the morning coffee. If you thought you'd sleep in or go to a diner, you'd be missing one of the best parts. 9AM, all guests are invited to Sandra's delicious home cooked breakfast. My wife and I were the only people staying this week, so we felt like royalty. Fresh fruit, fluffy eggs, local meat. Oh, did I mention Sandra accommodated my wife's gluten free diet completely? She made us gluten free muffins, pancakes, cookies, English buns...all so delicious. She even dropped off some extra cookies she made on our porch since no one else was staying this week. This is more than "you get what you pay for." The service was received was priceless. Sandra loves to ask if she can help plan your day. She brings maps and pens along with ideas and experience to help you get the most out of the Goshen area and beyond. You can also just enjoy hearing her many stories about the Inn and her guests over the years. And again, there are so many things to do within a half hour. Lexington has all the restaurant and shops you'd want. Douthat park gives you kayaking, nature walks, and swimming. Breweries, wineries, mountain peaks, valley views...everything is accessible from The Hummingbird. I haven't even spoken about the grounds yet! The Inn itself is beautiful and historic. Each bedroom has a private bathroom. There are multiple common spaces that make you feel as if you stepped into a Jane Austen novel (when is the last time you were in a solarium?). More porches than you could ever need. Flowers, trees, Mill Creek, a gazebo, and the soothing sound train tracks nearby. We opted to stay in the more private cabin, built recently by none other than Jeff Shaffer himself. This was the perfect place for a honeymoon, with a private front and back porch, fire pit area, fully air conditioned if you need it, and an electric fire place if you're chilly. The back porch looks on Mill Creek, and I saw hummingbirds every day. Suffice it to say, we will be going back, so you better book before we do! We loved every minute of it, and you will too. We hear another cabin may be coming, so get out to the Hummingbird!

What a treat staying at the Hummingbird inn! I stayed with my boyfriend for a 4 night stay to explore the southwest part of Virginia. Sandra greeted us. What a wonderful host. She was so helpful in helping us map out our plans for the day from hiking, to exploring wineries and breweries, exploring the parks and local towns. The 2 course breakfast in the morning was so scrumptious not only that but the treats(muffins, breads) prior to breakfast and the treats at night (expresso brownies , cookies) all were to die for. We enjoyed nights sitting by the fire and watching Netflix in the communal 1700 living space, strumming the guitar , sitting by the creek in the gazebo. The hummingbird inn is situated right by the railroad which is active to this day so you will hear trains at night. The room we stayed in was the Allegheny , a very spacious room, Queen bed, sitting area, gas fireplace and large bathroom. The biggest and the oldest room of the inn. Bed was extremely comfortable. All amenities provided were thought out. Highly recommend staying at the hummingbird, accessible to Lexington, Staunton, Charlottesville.

We stayed here midweek, and we’re lucky to get the place to ourselves. Beautiful garden and the breakfast was 10 stars! We stayed in the room Eleanore Roosevelt stayed in once while first lady on an official trip to inspection local worker conditions. Thank you Sandra!
