Nice staff, clean room. Nice stay, breakfast was nice with a few different options to eat.

We shelled out £98.90 for a double dose, you see – two souls, a room, shared bog, and loo, plus a pair of English brekkies. Sharp as a tack, we penned our brekkie desires at the crack of 7:30am. But blast it all, one of our morning feasts was tardy, not gracing our table until a shocking 8am, and the rascally staff had the audacity to inform us they'd run dry on veggie sausages. I, in my ire, declared I'd forgo the veggie banger, only to be served at an infuriating 8:02am, sans the elusive veggie sausage. The dining quarters were as desolate as a ghost town, and to add insult to injury, those behind me in the breakfast queue merrily devoured their victuals before we did. I demand a reckoning from this hostel's high and mighty! We shan't breathe a word of praise for this establishment. To fellow travellers embarking upon the South Downs Way, steer clear of this den of inequity at all costs. The self-catering scullery is an abomination, cobwebs draping the ceiling like garlands of disgrace, and the common area, a haven of filth and squalor.
Response from Property: Thankyou for taking the time to review us. We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay. We do explain to guests that we cook the breakfasts to order when it is quieter - meaning that the breakfast is freshly cooked. Our staff work hard to maintain high standards at the hostel, and I am sorry that your stay was not up to our usual high standards.

We have just returned from a wonderful adventure at Truleigh Hill. We hired a Safari tent and loved it. The tents are well equipped with lighting, a log burner (with a starter pack) gas hob, kettle, and basic cutlery. Beds are very comfy and the duvet lovely and plump and kept us warm even on a chilly night. On our stay we endured a very windy night, and the tent itself was a bit flappy so pack the earplugs if you are not a deep sleeper. Check in was easy at 5pm and we were shown to our tent and everything explained. We ate in the eating area and dinner was delicious and very reasonably priced. The showers and toilets were basic but clean and tidy. We used the youth hostel as a base to visit Worthing and Brighton but we would definitely return to explore more of the South Downs. It’s a beautiful little gem of a place and you won’t be disappointed by the views. Thank you to all who helped make us have a fantastic little breakaway.

Stayed for a third time I. One of their pods. Super comfortable with duvets provided. We have a great meal in the evening and pre order cooked breakfast for the morning. Really friendly and helpful staff, good beers in the fridge and a mad mix of super friendly people staying from hard core walkers and cyclists to Japanese and German tourists! There are stunning views if you go back out of hostel through the tree tunnel and turn right along the footpath. Amazing at sunset. Also saw glow bugs which was cool
Response from Property: Thankyou for your review. We are so pleased that you enjoy your stays with us, and are looking forward to welcoming you back again soon.

This place is wonderful. Its set in the beautiful South Downs, great for hikers and cyclists. We were visiting Brighton but wanted somewhere quiet & calm to sleep. The staff are friendly, and it was very clean. Great facilities, lots of games & the food is excellent. I personally love chatting to new people & we met a wonderful mix of characters here but it's also easy to keep to yourself if you wish

Hostels have come a long way! The dorm beds were so comfortable and clean and there was lots of communal space if you felt sociable. Brilliant place to stay on a South Downs Way hike with lovely walks all around.

I was hoping to visit this Youth Hostel today, but this morning the train I was planning to catch was cancelled at the last minute and then the next one due to the rail strikes. I had checked the night before and a service was offered. Unfortunately, I appreciate this is a business but it is also a charity and there was no goodwill for people like me stuck and with no little choice. A shame the commercial nature. In the past they have always been accepting and helpful. I rang up just in case someone else is in the opposite situation and there is now a bed for them.

I've camped at Truleigh hill twice now and can always rely on it being a safe, convenient and beautiful place to stay. It's great for families, friends or even solo trips. Taxis are available from the town centre, but I'd recommend having a mode of transport available for the drive up the hill.

Really enjoyed our two night stay (camping) - beautiful location. Excellent facilities - if you're a camper then no need to bring along any cooking equipment, crockery or cutlery as it is all provided by the hostel and means you dont need to carry so much. They also provide fridge and areas for storing your food. Only downside is it is not served by public transport, but easy to get to by taxi (£12 each way from Shoreham-by-Sea railway station). Excellent communal lounge and eating area and they provide all-day food and alcohol (if you fancy a tipple) and lots of books and board-games to keep children/family occupied. Staff are really welcoming, friendly and helpful.

Camped at this YHA. Great bathroom facilities and social area where we met other trail walkers. Staff are welcoming and very friendly and bend over backwards to help. Our experience was really fantastic and other than the beautiful scenery we saw, was one of the highlights of our trip.

I cycled the Downs Link from Guildford to Truleigh Hill. This is a perfect place to stop over before finishing off to Brighton in the morning. Arrived shattered after the long climb up Beeding Hill from Bramber.. I always forget how tring that last stretch is! Early season stay - so had a room booked. Nice dinner, a few pints of 6X, and a deep sleep! Thanks to all lthe staff at YHA Truleigh Hill.

1) It's great value for money. 2) The location is stunning! 3) The accommodation is clean and comfortable 4) There's a wide range of accommodation choice: - DIY camp, YHA camp, shared rooms, private rooms, etc. 5) The staff are enthusiastic, friendly and helpful - good old-fashioned customer service, it's great! 6) You can be sociable. Or not. The choice is yours. Comfy communal areas. Comfy rooms. 7) Plenty of places to charge-up if you want to stay online and free WIFi. 8) YHA seems to be working hard to cater for dietary needs so you won't starve if you don't want to self-cater! 9) Excellent walking, cycling and sight-seeing opportunities. 10) You benefit young people and the community by staying there! I've been twice now and will definitely go again. It's a lovely place to stay to visit family in Brighton, without having to stay in Brighton itself, as I'm a rural kind of a girl!
Response from Property: Thankyou for your review. We would agree with all of your points! We are so pleased you enjoy staying with us.

Booked the day before, planning to camp and have breakfast there while cycling the south downs way, unfortunately on the day my son had an accident so we did not make the hostel check in, in time, I let them know via email around 3pm that day incase in the unlikely event the camping pitch (a patch of grass in their garden) would be required for another camper, I also asked for a part refund seeing as we would not be having the breakfast that had been pre paid for, I thought it would not be an issue and not unreasonable to expect a refund for at least the food...........wrong! I received an email quoting terms etc. stating no refund would be given. I feel this is disgraceful seeing as the YHA would have not been out of pocket whatsoever, after all it is only a camping pitch and not a room. How many restaurants do you know that charge you for a meal you did not have? well in my experience so far only the charitable YHA. Another reviewer I saw was unable to get a refund due to a rail strike and was given the excuse............ " no refund at late notice due to the fact that it is unlikely that we will be able to resell the room at this late notice" If they were reasonable then you would have thought the breakfast would be refunded. They give charities a bad name.
Response from Property: I am sorry that you are not happy about the experience you received. YHA's terms and conditions around cancellations are some of the most generous in the industry (permitting cancellations 24 hours before arrival for a 90% refund). You agreed to these terms at the time of booking. In order to be able to continue our great charitable work, YHA does need to ensure that we operate in a financially sustainable manner. We do have a limit to how many camping bookings we can accommodate - this is to ensure that there is ample space for all guests and access to toilet and shower facilities is reasonable. We can therefore only accommodate a maximum of 12 campers at any time.

Comfortable and as expected. Staff really good. Double bunk room and shared facilities. Quite a trek from the main road but part of the adventure.
