Usually, when I travel, I check in to a large, anonymous hotel online, get a digital key, eat only take away breakfast, and order extra towels or other needs via an app. I rarely interact with a single live human my entire stay. And, as an introvert with some mild social anxiety, that’s just peachy. Staying at a BnB was rather outside my comfort zone, but I was dying to see the eclipse and my private cabin rental fell through, so I decided to brave the unknown wilds of staying in a private residence with **gasp** interactive hosts. Yes, it IS a room in someone’s house. Yes, the hosts DO pop out to say hello as you come and go. Yes, some small talk and polite banter is required. If you’re having the heart palpitations of a human being hunted for sport after reading those last few sentences, take deep breaths! Stay with me a moment longer, please! The hosts do interact with you, it’s true. But they’re also good at reading the room and giving you some space. Small talk leaves me sweating like some kind of anxious farm animal heading for slaughter, and despite my best efforts at covering, I’m sure that’s obvious to others. While the hosts did greet us as we came and went, they also backed off and gave space (perhaps sensing my impending stroke from nerves). They’re also very kind, polite and down to Earth people who aren’t going to put a lot of pressure on you, so don’t panic. Plus, as more guests arrived, the interactions were spread over a larger group. I actually had a pleasant time chatting with other like minded guests, surprising myself! As others have noted, the rooms are charming and breakfast is exquisite. Now, let’s answer some questions I had as a novice BnB guest…. The rooms are extremely well appointed. You’ll find toiletries, up to and including makeup wipes and poo-pourri (a must in the small rooms). There are plenty of towels and Wendy does do some light housekeeping daily, replacing them as you need. The rooms can lock, from the inside or outside, with a skeleton key, so not the most secure but manageable. The WiFi is also blazing fast. We brought a tablet and watched movies, downloaded files, surfed the web and checked email with great ease. The walls are a bit thinner than the average hotel, but it was totally fine and we didn’t notice any real issues. If you’re an introvert who loves to travel, eventually you’re going to encounter a location where BnB is the best (or only) option. And I get it. You’re a little nervous. But I’m telling you— take the plunge here and you won’t be sorry. I wasn’t.

I had the most welcoming experience with Wendy and Michael. The house is lovely with attention to every single detail. The room was so homey and comfortable with a private attached bathroom. The sheets were soft and smelled so fresh and clean. I immediately relaxed. The breakfast both days was gourmet. Wendy has such a touch. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and I will be back again and again. If you find yourself in the area, don't hesitate to stay there!

What a beautiful gem in the town of Guilford. Wonderful old home filled with beautiful treasures collected by Wendy & Mike. Comfortable and very homey. Great library downstairs with all types of books. Now on to breakfast.. the best ! Wendy puts so much thought and love into each breakfast. We were fortunate to have some homegrown raspberries and kale on our visit. Highly recommended this B&B.

A beautifully appointed BnB with real charm; almost as much charm as our hosts. The breakfasts are unbelievably good. They offered the best food we had while in the area. We needed to leave early our last morning there and the bag breakfast provided was delicious and generous and varied. So glad we were able to find a room here!

Came up for the annual seaplane fly-in in Greenville and stayed two nights in The Cummings. The room was very cozy and comfortable and the A/C was welcome during the heat wave! Breakfasts were delicious; for example: apple crepes, French omelette, salad, chia pudding, Bombay potatoes :-). Kept me going for the whole day. There is a Keurig station outside the rooms, so coffee/tea always available. I didn't spend much time downstairs, but there are nicely decorated common rooms and it looks like a bunch of DVDs on the shelf. WiFi worked great throughout. Wendy, Michael and Snickers the Dog were the perfect hosts! Highly recommended.

What a fantastic place to stay. The owners clearly put their heart and soul into this place. The entire house is well appointed with period furnishings. The bed in the Isabella room was one of the most comfortable I of which I have had the pleasure of sleeping. Breakfast was outstanding, as well. I would stay here again without hesitation.

My family of 4 wanted a comfortable stay close to our whitewater rafting excursion and we were very pleased with the accommodation. The place was very clean and comfortable and the owners and their dog, Snickers, made us feel at home. We also love the conveniently placed coffee and tea maker just outside our room. We highly recommend this place if you're looking for a weekend getaway or if you are in Guilford.

The house is slated to become a national historic property in August. Beautiful old Victorian home furnished elegantly with a wonderful wraparound porch. Wendy's breakfasts were yummy!
