Save yourself some stress and book at a non-Wyndham. They are running a bait and switch scam. In the short time we were there, we heard from merchants and Onshore staff that at least 17 reservations had been cancelled without proper notice. There are reviews on various travel sites and even Wyndham’s site of people detailing their experiences with this bait and switch scam. It works like this: You make a reservation 7+ months in advance, plan your vacation, confirm reservation the day before and on the day of, or upon arrival, they cancel due to overbooking. When you try to hold them accountable, they claim you booked with a 3rd party even though you booked through the Wyndham app and have the email confirmation. They argue and claim you booked through Holidays Res, which you didn’t, but a call to Wyndham results in them telling you they don’t have your reservation even though you have their email confirmation. Holidays Res tries to low ball you into a room that doesn’t work for you and is no where near Onshore or most of the main Newport area and they get away with it because most people need a roof over their head for the night. You can refuse their low ball offers and go home or find other accommodations and be refunded in full, but if you stay at another Wyndham there’s no refund. They do this because Wyndham offers to rent out the timeshare units so they can make extra money. We got canceled because a time share owner has first rights and can call up same day to reserve a room. We reported them to our credit card company for running a scam and disputed the charge. If a credit card company finds a merchant is defrauding card users then they could lose their rights to accept those types of credit cards, like Mastercard, Amex, Discover, and Visa. Lost revenue will result in a positive behavior change by Wyndham. We received a full refund from Holidays, but it doesn’t cover the loss of the vacation, loss of sleep and induced stress all because they haphazardly want to make a buck that is ultimately a scam. No one was rude and every last one freely and easily admitted this bait and switch scam is a common, long-standing, occurrence. They refer to it as a cancellation though. They all agreed it wasn’t right, but since they were limited in what they could do they didn’t let it bother them. They just work there.

They cancelled my reservations a few hrs before we were due to check in that I didn’t see since we were traveling to Newport. We were told the time share owner decided he wanted the room for the weekend. I guess they can just make those decisions at anytime. Upon arrival when we found out the room was cancelled they tried to get us a room in other locations such as in Jamestown or on Goat Island but none had the accommodations I had booked to get 2 bedrooms and full kitchen. That was non negotiable. After almost 3 hrs at the front desk which was about to close up for the night they suddenly found a room in the same bldg that a time share owner had decided not to use for the weekend. But this was only for 2 nights, not the 3 nights we initially booked to stay. Looking at other reviews this has happened over and over. Wyndham claims to have no control over it but I booked directly thru the Wyndham site so as far as I’m concerned this is on them. Although we ended up getting 2 nights at the condo, the aggravation of it just isn’t worth going thru them again. It’s too bad because the condo was nice but it’s not worth the risk of this happening again.

We were in Newport Onshore the last week of April, the unit was nice, clean large enough with 2 balconies. There were 2 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms both could be private through the bedrooms, the 2nd bathroom could also be accessible through the main areas of the unit. The indoor pool, sauna and tiny workout room were nice. The resort is within walking distance to most restaurants, shops, and the piers. There is very little free parking, most lots and street parking were $10. and up. I imagine in season there will be many boats, yachts to watch. I would go to Club Wyndham Newport Onshore again.

Very nice 2br unit with 2 balconies w water views. Recently renovated. Showers in bathtubs with a whirlpool tub in the master br. Right on the main street in Newport. Indoor pool but outdoor pool wasn't open yet. "Fitness " room was 3 cardio equipment and should be better.

Great for family’s or friends or couples. Great location so you never need the car for events or shops or restaurants.

We had a great two bedroom unit here. Was clean and very spacious and comfortable. It was also in a primo location in Newport - within walking distance or a short car ride to everything. The views of the harbor were also very nice. Highly recommend!

Very clean & spacious condo. 2 bedrooms with 3 beds. Comfortable beds & pillows. Right amount of supplies, dishes, etc Towels were rough so I washed them to make them soft. Water views. I really enjoyed sitting on the couch with the fireplace (electric) on. The pool temperature was good as if it was cold I would not have gone in. Pool towels supplied. I swam 3 days. Enjoyed the sauna too. They have gym equipment with water dispenser, towels. Ladies at front desk were always helpful & kind. The two gentleman working front desk were okay,

Located right on the harbor and within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. Unit was very clean and well stocked for "cooking in" when we chose not to go out for meals. We had a harbor view from one of the two balconies and each balcony included a large table and chairs.

Two bedroom apartment was incredible! I had a view of the marina, so gorgeous! Had a great kitchen, parking spot and could walk downtown. Very nice place, clean, and comfortable! Would stay here again!

The Wyndham Newport Onshore USED to be a GREAT place to stay., but now, RENTER BEWARE! First, the good points: - The location is perfect - right downtown and close to everything but also on the harbor with excellent views of the boats, bridge, etc. - The suits are spacious, the beds comfortable, the furniture is modern and pretty new. The kitchen facilities are adequate and well-stocked with dishes, utensils and glassware. - The suites that have cover porches overlooking the harbor (Eastwind, Southwind and Westwind buildings) are great. The porches are wonderful places to sit and watch the world go by. - The outdoor pool area is nice. The indoor pool is, well, an indoor pool - adequate but nothing special. The not-so-good points: - Parking sucks. You get one space assigned for your stay and some of the spaces can be difficult to get in and out of. If you have guests that need a parking space for a day or overnight, it can be hard to get one, especially on weekends during the summer - Noise from nearby bars can be tough if you're staying in the Northwind building. It's especially bad on weekends but generally dies down after 1am or so. - the one bedroom units on the top floor are small, dark and do not have covered porches. Now for the REALLY BAD stuff: My family has been renting stays at this resort for almost 20 years. We would rent weeks directly from owners, through third party websites such as Redweek or from Newport vacation rental agencies. We also booked stays directly through Wyndham. We NEVER had a problem with any bookings until this year (2023). In May, we booked four nights through an online third party site. The DAY BEFORE our arrival, I got a phone call from the manager at the resort telling me that they were overbooked and that they didn't have a suite for us. Instead, they offered us a room at the Wyndham Inn on the Harbor or at the Wyndham Long Wharf. Although these are nice properties, they are NOT equivalent in terms of amenities and location. As such, we were not happy with the switch, especially when I was informed that there would not be any reduction in the fee we had paid. We refused the offer and canceled the reservation and received a full refund. We booked another stay this August with a gentleman who was an OWNER of the week. The same thing happened again. The OWNER was contacted the DAY BEFORE our scheduled arrival and was told the same thing - overbooked, can stay at the other hotels instead, so sorry, etc.. Needless to say, the owner was pissed as were we when we were informed about the situation. Once again, our vacation which we had been looking forward to for over a month was destroyed by the apparent incompetence of the resort management. And once again, we canceled, although this time we were not able to get all of our money back due to credit card fees and broker fees. SOMETHING IS SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THE MANAGEMENT. Great location The kitchen floor should have been mopped, not just swept The master bedroom bed was terrible to sleep on Those are minor compared to the location of the place. You can walk to just about everything. Or it’s a short drive to the cliff walk. Would definitely stay there again

Unfortunately I have to give this resort a bad review. I booked a room for Feb 17, 2024 back in Oct 2023 and at 9:30 am on Feb 17 I received a message that my reservation was cancelled due to over booking. Very poor management !!! We've been visiting Newport 4+ times each year and for the past few years will always check availability at Onshore first. Going forward I don't think Onshore will be our first choice. Very disappointing.
