I do know where to begin. This resort is spectacular. Our beachfront suite, mere feet from the water offered unparalleled comfort and space. We had a kitchenette that was perfect for breakfast on the patio. Sunrise every morning. The sound of waves lulling us to sleep. The resort grounds are breathtaking. Enjoying cocktails at the bistro or at a fire bowl was a nightly tradition. A magical location. Oh, and the hydropath is a must. It is a perfect way to relax after several days of hiking/exploring all the beauty that the Comox Valley has to offer.

Booked 3 days to decompress after trauma retreat for veterans, opted for a package, paid double occupancy but I was staying/sleeping in the room alone. Since the hotel forgot to book my hydropath in a timely fashion, they started contacting me via telephone 3 days prior to arrival. I advidsed them via e-mail that I am at a trauma retreat and will make arrangements at check-in, just like the other times. Phone call the next day telling me it's becoming "urgent" that thay book the hydropath and they need the name of person staying in my room with me. Advised Miranda that I am staying/sleeping in the room alone, paying the double occupancy and will have my daughter-in-law take the hydropath (my children live in Comox). I also advised her that I am in the middle of the retreat and will make all these plans once I arrive (as I have done already). As I am trying to let her go, I am then told (very rudely) that if I do not book the Hydropath and there is no availability during my visit, that I am still paying for the package. Once again, I advise her of where I am and that I will make the arrangements as I arrive (the next day), that I understand if there's no room, I will not be doing the Hydropath. Next thing you know, I get this e-mail: I hope this email finds you well. We just spoke on the phone regarding your upcoming stay for tomorrow, I had called to book you in to the Hydropath and acquire your guests name. You had mentioned it’s just you in the room, though you’re booked on the package as a double occupancy, and had mentioned you will have a few friends come to the resort during your stay . I was gathering my thoughts for a further inquiry regarding your room guest count, when you mentioned to me it was not a good time and you had to go and it will be figured out tomorrow. This is what’s prompting this email. We would like to advise that if there’s more than 2 guests staying in the room, we cannot have you on this packaged rate or in this room. As this room only accommodates 2 guests as there’s only 1 king bed. Additionally, we cannot guarantee the availability of the Hydropath. This is non-transferrable, which is why it should be booked in at the time of booking, to ensure use of what’s paid for within the package. If you’re not able to get in to the Hydropath during your stay, this will not be credited back to you. Wishing you a wonderful day. Sincerely, Miranda From this e-mail, it became quite clear that the hotel reservation staff do not listen to anything you're saying, then turn the entire conversation into an issue that was definitely not hapening. All I wanted was a place to feel safe and relaxed, this was starting to look like neither of those scenarios. As I was about to leave the retreat, I received yet another very rude phone call, this time making it seem as though I would be using my time at their resort to have a huge party, be a difficult person and have extra guests etc. This is when I finally asked to sp
Response from Property: Hello, We want to sincerely apologize for the experience you had with your reservation. We understand the importance of your stay, especially after a trauma retreat, and we deeply regret that we did not meet your expectations. Our team's intention was genuine, and they were eager to ensure that everything was set for your arrival, especially considering the high demand for our hydropath services. Unfortunately, you were not available to provide answers to our team due to your retreat. This is truly sad to hear, and we usually advise booking all your services in advance. Please understand that our team was solely trying to obtain a time to avoid any disappointment once on-site, especially if you chose a package. The well-being and comfort of our guests are of utmost importance to us, and we apologize for not demonstrating this in our communication with you. We are sorry for the distress and inconvenience these conversations created. We truly hope that you will consider giving us another chance in the future. We understand if you choose not to, but we sincerely hope that you will find some time for well-deserved self-care at another time when you feel ready for it. Again, we apologize for the disappointment and wish you all the best in your recovery. Warmest wishes from the Kingfisher Team.

Dated room with no frills. Expected ocean view which was limited at best. Spa pool and hot tub were just ok. Steam room was out of order which was what I was wanting. Tried to book hydropath spa but was out of luck. No use of lockers for hotel guests so must walk to/from room in robe and slippers in the rain. Grounds are covered in interesting colored lights/fake plants but I’d prefer more natural setting

Stayed at the resort for 2 nights, in an Oceanfont renovated room, celebrating a B-Day. From our Resort entry greeting by Juan to our departure by Samatha, the staff was excellent. The hydro mist spa was awesome. The relaxation massage was one of the best I have ever had, and I've had many. Dining, dinner, and lunch meals were very good. Disappointed only for the lack of vegetarian variety for either meal. Hopefully, the new chef will add to the menu. Recommend Lobster with risotto, was delicious. Pacific Mist Bowl veggie, was also very good. We will be back!

When, at the last moment, our weeklong reservations at another accommodation advised that they were closing the outdoor pool and hot tub for the entire duration of our stay for maintenance, Chyanne helped us to complete our very last minute telephone reservation at Kingfisher Resort. Chyanne was able to secure 2 rooms for our party with little to no notice as well as sort out our 2 separate deposits and payments. The Kingfisher is spectacular. Our party had the benefit of a newly renovated “Smart” ocean/tranquility garden-view room as well as an oceanfront Chinook suite with kitchenette. The best of both worlds, really. The beds were very comfortable, the rooms well stocked, and we were able to bring some snacks and drinks to keep in our small refrigerator. The restaurant food was delicious with a good variety of menu options. The kitchen accommodated some food sensitivity issues easily. The gardens are beautifully designed with Adirondack seating and fire bowls thoughtfully placed throughout so as to allow guests to sit and enjoy sounds and views during the day and evenings. John works quietly and unobtrusively to maintain the spectacular grounds. The oceanfront is rocky and the wildlife watching during high and low tides was entertaining. There is a small sandy spot with lounge chairs created at the waterfront for guests to enjoy. The pool and hot tub were very well maintained and enjoyable with a new limited bar and snack menu service new added. Robes and slippers are provided for resort guests to wear when travelling to and from the pool and spa area. We did not make use of the Spa services but the variety is tempting for our next visit. We were very surprised by the new and well appointed gym. My husband made use of the equipment daily.

This was an uneven experience. The spa and facilities are lovely. The location is magnificent. The grounds, especially in the evening, are enchanting. But the hotel room was very disappointing. It felt like budget accommodation. The room is cramped and the bathroom dated. There's a full kitchen, which we didn't need and it was unattractive to look at. There were no doors on the closet so also aesthetically unappealing. There was only one comfortable chair. If we had been there in the summer it would have been fine as there were chairs on the balcony overlooking the ocean that would have been a preferred spot to sit anyway. But we were there in darkest winter in constant rain. The fireplace was a nice touch but made the room uncomfortably hot very quickly and as stated there was only one comfy chair. In good weather it would have been lovely to sit in the garden at one of the fire pits but again this was not an option. The lobby is just for check in and offers no seating. Our dining experience was also disappointing. We opted for a pod and booked it upon arrival for the next day. When we showed up they did not have our reservation but scrambled to get us accommodated which in retrospect was unfortunate. We'd have been better off in the dining room having a timely meal. As it was we were seated in a pod at about 7:15 and had a starter, an amuse bouche, a basket of bread and then nearly two hours later our main course arrived and it was definitely NOT worth the wait. Neither of us could finish it. The dessert was divine. So those are the negatives! But there were positives as well. The staff were unfailingly pleasant and efficient. We had massages that were wonderful and pool, sauna and steam room were very nice.

Birthday girls' weekend away with my best friend was amazing. The Kingfisher was everything we could have asked for and more. We stayed in an Orca Suite with sliding doors that opened onto a small patio - we could walk right out onto the lawn and ocean/beach in front of the property. Very comfortable room, excellent beds and well-equipped little kitchenette. These units have no A/C but portable fans were provided and there was good airflow if the patio doors were open. Aside from the amazing property I was particularly impressed with the friendliness and service-orientation of every employee we encountered during our 3 night stay. Being the long weekend the resort was busy but every staff person was friendly, courteous and happy to help with whatever we needed. That shouldn't really be such a remarkable thing but it made such a difference. We ate brunch at the Aqua twice over looking the ocean and had dinner in the lounge/wine bar one evening and dinner in Ocean 7 another night. The food was excellent, the cocktails were impressive (thanks Julie!) and the service impeccable. All of our dietary restrictions were taken very seriously and we felt very comfortable. I would also highly recommend the Hydropath experience - we enjoyed it so much we went back a second time! I can't wait to return.

We go to the Hydropath yearly for many years. The experience this week was not the greatest. Service at the front desk in spa area was unfriendly upon arrival and departure it was like an inconvenience for staff to sign us in and pay our bill. Hydropath: The first hot tub was not very hot. The second hot tub was again not very hot. After the clay bath the rinse showers were cold, we stood there 5min waiting for the 2 showers to warm up.. no luck. I think in past they we’re turned on to avoid this while we were still in the bath area.. not today.. cold showers! Overall we are going to re-think our annual trip as do expect some type customer kindness in the tourism industry and we are not difficult. Not sure why we left tips.

Not sure how this Hotel is Hotel of the year! The Spa or Restaurant perhaps but certainly not the Hotel. We found the room to be old, worn and similar to that of a cheap Motel. Bed linen was dirty (sheet soiled) and staff very rude when asked to explain the details of checkout bill. Loved the Spa experience and garden but they are not worth the price of staying at the Hotel. There are many other Island Hotels who welcome their guests and ensure you have a good experience.

Kingfisher Oceanside Resort was a sweet treat at the end of our memorable week-long sojourn on Vancouver Island. We happened upon it at the last minute during our trip planning and hesitated in making a reservation because of many derogatory comments in online reviews. But our entire experience was of unexpected excellence in an unlikely setting. Our king room in the newer portion of the resort (farthest from the beach) was handsome and luxurious, with great bedding and a bathroom of such shiny style that it cried out for a photo. Our only complaint was that there was no way to let in a little outside air into the room via a screened window or door. The grounds at Kingfisher were unexpectedly well-kept and filled with lovely plantings, meandering pathways and little stream elements -- a very relaxing setting when we had a pre-dinner drink in front of one of the often-mentioned fire pits. We had three different meals -- two brunches and a dinner -- in the bar portion of the restaurant since it did not require reservations as did the adjoining luxe dining room. All the food we tasted was absolutely superb -- the two dinner entrees of halibut and scallops were among the best renditions of those main courses we among the best we had ever eaten -- and that's saying something since we are long-time residents of the Pacific Northwest very familiar with our region's seafood bounty. Service during our three meals was personable, helpful and professional. The only misstep was the timing of the main course during dinner -- frustratingly slow -- a flaw that was not altogether surprising since both restaurants sharing the same kitchen were packed. We had the greatest reticence about booking the hydrotherapy spa experience at Kingfisher because of many negative online reviews but went ahead anyway since it was not something we had experienced previously. We were glad we did. We found hydrotherapy to be both invigorating and relaxing, a well-timed transit through a surprising variety of water and shower experiences. Some reviews seem to suggest it would be like being confined in somebody's basement recreation room, with fake-y, tired decor, but our experience was just the opposite. Granted, it is conducted in a windowless below-ground area, but that was easy to overlook because of the variety of different water features. Our advice would be: Relax and enjoy! In conclusion, Kingfisher rates as one of the most unexpected and delightful stays in our many decades of travel both near and far. It exceeded our expectations on almost every level.

Great place, worth the upgrade for sure. We had originally booked a standard room. But was on 2nd floor - no elevators and had a fruit fly issue. Front desk upgraded us to a beach front suite - AMAZING. View was great, Spa was good, nice gardens and food over the top. Highly recommend, just wished for better weather - take the drive along the coast to see kite surfing and beaches - very nice

Over priced!! Run by children!! The food is not too bad and the drinks are good, just over priced. I can't wait for the new Resort and spa, in Campbell River to open, it will be nice to have some choice.
