The Wellington Hotel

Built in 1700s, The Wellington has done well to remain viable and current. Our room was very nicely decorated; had a really comfy bed and a big shower. Very clean and maintained. Stairs were steep and narrow-treaded and there is no room for a lift but that’s the only drawback. Breakfast was a great start to each day - as was the cheery greeting from our hosts. Large hotel car park and an electric charging point nearby in the town centre.

If the "hotel inspector" came, she would most likely start walking. Old glory. The photos on the website are at least 25 years old. Nothing has happened since then. Reception? Beneath contempt. First pay then key. Breakfast is.....pffff. if you want toast you have to pay an extra £1.5. That will really make you rich. Breakfast buffet? Does not exist. The breakfast area in the "restaurant" had not even been vacuumed. There were crumbs everywhere from the night before. Urgent restructuring needed.

My room was absolutely spotlessly clean and my single bed one of the most comfortable beds I’ve slept in with two comfy pillows. The room was quiet and comfortable, perfect temperature and had everything I needed, check in was quick and easy, staff friendly and professional. It was easy to let myself in at midnight using the back door code. I had a full English for breakfast which was great quality and filling. I think my towels were new too as they were so white and fluffy.

Nice comfortable clean room good value for money. Had lovely food at reasonable price party of 9 and all food served at the same time and was pipping hot and tasted lovely. Drinks very reasonable and a good breakfast Stayed one night before attending a wedding at Sal**arshe Hall. Central to visit many places and Howden has a variety of shops.

Absolutely disgusting service. Went in with friends and family and accidentally smashed a glass as it was given to me wet and slipped out my hand. The women with red hair who had told me she was the owner, was extremely rude and practically was shouting at me telling me I need to clean it up. Which I did and didn’t expect anyone else to do this as the first thing I asked, was if she had a brush and I was extremely apologetic. It Was completely unnecessary. I was told I ruined her night because I accidentally smashed a glass? The situation caught me so off guard and I left in tears. Wont be going back.

Really can’t grumble considering the room rate. Rooms comfortable. Staff very pleasant and on the ball. Food was the standout for me as it was fantastic….I had the most amazing homemade Guiness and Steak pie with the best chips I’ve had in a long time. Breakfast great and could have only been improved with a bit of black pudding.

I have had a very comfortable stay I had a positive first impression The room was small however it was clean and warm and the bed very comfortable I would recommend this to others as a nice place with friendly staff to stay Good value for money

A town centre pub! Comfortable bed, one or two issues which were resolved straight away. Lovely breakfast. Plenty of parking. Great being in the centre of town.

Called in here for a drink and bite to eat after an afternoons shopping in Howden. Although the place was quite busy we were served pretty quick and seated at a table near the window in the restaurant. The barmaid who took our order and served our drinks was helpful, jolly and courteous. A bit of a wait was had for our meals but all was cooked fresh so not a problem with this. All the meals had, four in total were delicious, ample helpings and well presented. Our table was visited several times to make sure everything was ok with our food and it was. All the food and drinks were very reasonably priced and a lovely atmosphere was had inside. The outside beer garden was large and clean with plenty of seating under parasols to be had. The tubs of flowers and especially the hanging baskets at the front were blooming lovely and very impressive! We can highly recommend calling in here for a drink and something to eat and look forward to returning again one day.
