I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Calgary-Airport for a quick stopover. As a frequent traveler through Alberta, I find this IHG property generally reliable, but my January visit was a mix of classic hospitality and a few seasonal frustrations.
The Highlights:
Late Night Relaxation: The pool area was buzzing with families and kids throughout the afternoon and early evening. However, I headed down about an hour before closing and it was a total shift in atmosphere. I managed to have a peaceful, quiet session in the hot tub, which was the perfect way to unwind after a long drive.
Comfortable Rooms: As expected from this brand, the bedding was crisp and the room was well-insulated against the Calgary wind.
Convenience: The proximity to the airport and easy access to Deerfoot Trail remains a major selling point for this location.
The Drawbacks:
Elevator Maintenance: It was a bit unfortunate that during my stay, one of the elevators was down for modernization maintenance. This led to some noticeable wait times in the lobby, especially during the morning checkout rush when everyone had luggage.
Winter Parking Issues: This was my biggest hurdle. Given the intense cold during these Calgary nights, I was relieved to see outdoor stalls with plug-ins. However, I discovered the plug-ins were not powered, meaning my vehicle's block heater wasn't working overnight. Starting a cold-soaked engine the next morning was a struggle; I’d really love to see these activated for guests during the winter peak.
Summary:
Despite the elevator delay and the parking power issue, the staff were friendly and the amenities were clean. It’s a solid 4-star experience, though a few ”winter readiness” improvements would make it a 5.
Always stay at the Ramada Hotel, before flying up to work. Room rates are usually well under $100.00 all in and free shuttle to and from Airport. Food at Restaurant is very tasty and updates are improving..Shower temps and faucets in tub could be improved but still work..Would also be nice to have extra late checkout for returning regular guests. Would reccomend to anyone!
A +
The cleanliness is actually OK, but it's quite run-down. The wash basin in my room was completely cracked and looked disgusting. I couldn't get through the two days I stayed there; it was a bit nauseating just looking at it. The breakfast was OK. Parking was convenient.

Good location, however in the faucet everytime you switch to hot or cold water something yellow spits out every couple seconds. There was a mini bar and we did not touch it yet still got charged for a peach water which I did not use and when I phoned once I got the bill they told me that because it was in my room I was charged regardless if it was touched by us or not. My partner and I did not drink anything from there and no one was in our room. Otherwise good location for going out in the downtown and very comfortable beds
It was better than the Marriott at Seattle Airport in many ways, except that the Wi-Fi was still unusable without registration, and although the breakfast was delicious, it was confusing that each room was given a $50 credit, and any amount exceeding that, including taxes and tips, had to be paid by the guest, but the final charge was confusing. In short, it was a mess of accounts, but fortunately the amount involved was not large.
Good stay. Pool and hot tub were great. A few of the other amenities could use attention, though. One of the washing machines wasn’t working, and breakfast was cold. There is also an omelette station that apparently only operates when it’s not “slow season”
The service is always incredible, and the hotel location and cleanliness was top notch. Maybe just call ahead when you’re booking so you know what to expect for breakfast.
We would stay again
Unfortunately, the front desk staff didn’t seem very welcoming. Their expression and tone gave the impression that they were not interested in helping guests.
Overall, everything was great. The room was clean, the facilities were nice, and the stay was comfortable.
We booked an extra night at Best Western Plus Hinton, we previously stayed for 3 nights before this and were pleasantly surprised by the new room we were given. It was spotless, even cleaner than the previous one we stayed in during our initial booking! Everything we needed was there, and the space felt fresh and welcoming. What truly stood out to us, though, was the front desk team. They were incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating. They allowed us to check in early, which we really appreciated, and made the whole transition smooth and stress-free. Great service, great stay, highly recommended!

AAnonymous UserAll staff, from front desk to engineering maintenance, are great. The restaurant breakfast staff might want to smile too. 😊
GGuest UserHotel room was clean and staff were kind The temperature of the hot tub was lukewarm and jets barely moved the water, also the shower water pressure was very poor but otherwise a good stay. We didn’t opt into dining for there for breakfast just had other plans.
GGuest UserWe've never come across this kind of experience before,my wife's sister in-law has gone to heaven, that's why we've to cancel the Hotel booking. It's a free cancellation show on the booking page, but the Hotel said ”No”. That's why we didn't come to Calgary and never stayed a night at the Hotel. If you kindly fix this case, we'll book Hotel from you in the future, thanks for your kindly help. We're seniors, both of us are over 70 years old, thanks God, we have a good life! We still can travel in Europe and Asia every year!!
GGuest UserOverall it was a decent stay here. Pros:
-Clean room with comfortable beds
-Shower had lots of hot water and good water pressure. -nice clean waterpark with helpful and friendly attendant who did not rush us at the end of the night when our young kiddo was dragging his feet to avoid having to leave - heated pools and 2 water slides made the hotel more appealing for us with having our kids along Cons: - the waterpark slides did not have enough of an angle so we couldn’t get down the slides with out having to propel ourselves at times which was odd but also nearly comical
-tiny rooms especially for the price. It felt a bit cramped with the limited furniture and the kids on pull out sofa. - the bathroom door provided zero privacy from the rest of the room with no sound barrier, plus it had a “frosted” glass panel as the main part of the door so it was completely see through, and was a tiny bathroom. - no in room microwave so we missed out on being able to heat up leftover takeout from our trip to help us keep costs down and reduce waste unless my husband went hunting for one to use on the main floor, but that was quite a hike when we are on 4th floor so food was cooled right down by the time it made it back to our room. - ordering from the menu at the onsite breakfast restaurant was expensive and the food was quite disappointing. My kids seemed to enjoy the breakfast buffet at least which was free for 5 & under at least.
HhongpowerIt takes about 20 minutes by Uber from Edmonton Airport. It cost about 33 bucks. There is also a Korean restaurant nearby... It is not a walkable distance. All schedules were handled by Uber. The sound of the air conditioner in the room… . It's so big... I turned it off when I went to sleep.
GGuest UserThe staff were friendly and helpful, and found a snow brush for us when we realized we had left ours at home. The location is perfect, a straight 10 or so minute walk downtown so you avoid the hassles of trying to find parking downtown. If walking isn't an option for you ( physical limitations, lazy holiday...or hangover) there's a bus stop right outside. There's an attached restaurant if you just want to stay in once in. Our room was large and clean with microwave fridge and coffee. Was it brand new? No, (but neither am I) and at the price, absolutely fine!
GGusNSVery clean hotel, probably recently renovated because the hallways had that new car smell.
Clara at front desk was very friendly and helpful.
Location is also great within Banff.
My only complaint is related to the temperature controls in the room. I like a cool room, and whatever I did, I could not get the temperature to drop. Even set at the lowest, with fan at maximum, the temperature stayed above 20c.

GGuest UserGreat location in Canmore, right on the main street and over the road from the Policeman's Creek Boardwalk. Bed very comfy and clean. Only negative was that the room looked a bit newer in the advertised photos, so in reality it was a bit tired. But it has free parking and the location makes up for it!
