Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, commonly referred to as 'Bozhou', is under the jurisdiction of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. 'Bortala' is Mongolian for 'silver grassland' and is located on the northwestern edge of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, in the hinterland of the Eurasian continent, surrounded by mountains on the west, north, and south, and has a temperate continental arid climate. It covers an area of 27,200 square kilometers and governs 2 county-level cities and 2 counties. According to the seventh population census data, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture was 488,198 people. Bozhou borders Kazakhstan, with a border line of 372 kilometers. It is an important connection point and key node for import and export goods in the 'Central Corridor' of the Silk Road Economic Belt, both domestically and internationally. The second Eurasian Continental Bridge runs through the entire territory, and the China-Kazakhstan oil pipeline and the West-East Gas Pipeline II cross the region. It is the intersection of two major transportation arteries and two major ports, where National Highway 312 meets Provincial Highway 219, and the Jingyihuo Railway intersects with the Northern Xinjiang Railway Ujing Complex Line in Bozhou. Bozhou has a 'two lakes and three mountains' topography and has established 4 national and autonomous region-level nature reserves and 1 national key scenic area. In December 2019, the State Ethnic Affairs Commission named Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture as a 'National Model Prefecture for Ethnic Unity and Progress'. In 2023, the gross regional product of Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture reached 51.272 billion yuan, an increase of 5.5% over the previous year at comparable prices. Among them, the primary industry added a value of 11.315 billion yuan, the secondary industry added a value of 15.365 billion yuan, and the tertiary industry added a value of 24.592 billion yuan.
