It was named after the temple because many people who worshipped there were granted official positions. During the Qing Dynasty, a high monk named Idle Cloud Zen Master wandered here, saw the ancient trees reaching the sky, the winding paths through the quiet forest, the blooming flowers and the singing birds; from the top, he looked afar and saw the green hills, the farmhouses and fields scattered among them, a captivating beauty all within sight. He exclaimed, 'The worldly realm is full of noise and clamor, but the Buddhist temple is peaceful and serene.' He then decided to settle here and renamed it 'Qingning Temple'.
