The first urban park established in Istanbul was Gulhane Park. The park, which now has 500 hundreds-year-old oak and walnut trees, was once the Topkapi Palace's exterior gardens while the Ottoman Empire was in power. Gülhane Park, located beside Istanbul's Topkapi Palace, is a lush green area in the heart of the city. This historic park, once the royal garden of the Ottoman Empire, is now a public park that offers tranquility and natural beauty. Its well-maintained pathways, surrounded by a variety of trees and flowers, offer a peaceful escape. Its scenic views of the Bosphorus and historical monuments, like the Goths' Column, add to its charm. Gülhane Park is perfect for leisurely strolls, family picnics, and experiencing Istanbul's natural beauty amidst its urban hustle. Admission is free, and strolling this park allows you to also reach popular sites like Topkapi Palace and other museums within an easy (but hilly) walk. Wheelchair accessibility is evident, although the cobblestone paths up to Topkapi Palace (coupled with the hilly terrain) can be extremely bumpy. Power chairs, not manual chairs, can make the trek.
