Plovdiv 2 Days Itinerary

📍 Itinerary Overview 🚩1st day. Morning visit the Old town, ancient theatre of Philoppopolis, city centre, the cathedral, orthodox churches, Christmas market and ancient Roman ruins 🏖️ Landmarks. The ancient theatre of Philoppopolis is a must to visit when traveling Plovdiv. The entrance fee costs in (€3,50) but if you want a combination of other museums there is a package. I only visited this because I stayed only for one day. I recommend also to visit the orthodox churches to appreciate the interior decorations how lavish and rich in affrescoes and colorful mosaics. Then, The city centre and its beautiful old buildings with local pubs, restaurants and markets. The old town is small so, you can roam it easily and find all the famous landmarks of the city. 🚇 Transportation. Public transportations like trains, buses and taxis are common in Plovdiv. When I arrived from Sofia, there are buses from the central train/bus stations that can reach your accommodation easily and conveniently. You can pay directly on the bus by swiping credit/debit cards or pay directly to the bus conductor. 📷 Photo Spots. I recommend to hike on the highest peak of the city where you can find the Ancient theatre of Philoppopolis and admire the panoramic landscapes of Plovdiv 🍜 Local Cuisine. Many Bulgarian cuisines can be enjoyed in this city and since I've stayed only for one night, Happy bar/restaurant was the place I've dined in. 🏠 Accommodation 1.DoubleTree by Hilton Plovdiv Center is my recommended hotel to stay because it's in the city centre, easy to find and it's just 5 mins walking to everywhere. Plus, staying at Hilton is always a wonderful place to stay. 💡 Tips. When traveling Plovdiv, always exchange your euros to Levi because other locals still don't accept euros or by simply pay with debit/credit cards but since next year, from January 2026 their money will be changed to euros so, it's ok. Most of the locals don't speak and understand English therefore, make sure to ask them first. The language is also a big problem when taking transportation cos most of the written are in Bulgarian so, prepare your google translation and goodluck to translate everything. Try to experience their local cuisines and visit the old town and it's surrounding because it's really worth it. Plovdiv is a small city and everything can be located easily. And finally, the travel time from Sofia to Plovdiv is 2 hours by bus while riding the trains is 3 hrs. I took the bus since I had only a limited time but if you have plenty of days, take the train and appreciate the amazing views of the landscapes. Goodluck and enjoy Plovdiv!
