The Dhole Cubs at Shanghai Zoo Are About to Be Exhibited

Five dhole cubs born this spring at Shanghai Zoo are about to be exhibited, and they will soon be 10 months old! With the care of their mother "Dhole Million" and scientific feeding by the keepers, the cubs are strong and have shiny brown fur. They have a great appetite; keepers cut fresh beef, lamb, rabbit, and chicken into small pieces for them every day, and the cubs can finish it all in just a few minutes, with the crisp sound of them crunching bones like chewing on potato chips. To ensure the cubs grow healthily, the zoo regularly vaccinates them, deworms them, and supplements trace elements. The dhole exhibition is now in the final countdown, and the native animal area is undergoing ecological renovation, with a brand-new wilderness window about to open. Dholes were once widely distributed across Asia, but now over 75% of their historical range has lost their presence. Shanghai was once a traditional distribution area for them in East China, where they played an important role in the ecosystem. Local chronicles and oral histories from the older generation still record their presence.
