#falladventures After our super late lunch, we headed into the grassland around 5PM, hoping to catch the sunset at Ulanbutong. This place used to be the royal hunting ground of Emperor Kangxi — and you can still feel that grand, untouched beauty today. Normally you’d need to pay RMB120 per person to enter, but since it’s off-season (and freezing 🥶), there was nobody at the entrance… so we got in for free! Unfortunately, when we arrived, the sky turned completely cloudy and blocked the sunset 😭 and the wind suddenly got so strong that my drone gave a “strong wind warning” — couldn’t even fly it far. By then, the temperature dropped sharply and we were underdressed badly (autumn outfit for early winter weather ❌). We snapped a few quick photos before sprinting back to town. Luckily, there’s a small supermarket nearby, so we stocked up on emergency winter gear — gloves, hats, and anything warm we could find 😂 Tips for Ulanbutong visitors: 1️⃣ Temperature drops fast — bring layers. How many? as our driver say: as many as you can! 2️⃣ The wind here is no joke, drone pilots beware. 3️⃣ By late October, most vegetation is dormant with some patches of frozen ground (see the frozen puddle in picture). 4️⃣ But hey — zero crowds! You can have the whole grassland to yourself 🌬️ 5️⃣ The sun sets super early, head back by 5.30PM or you will spend the dark in the grassland! Booked via travel agency in our hotel and going here will cost you 150 rmb that includes the transportation, lunch and insurance but if you want to see more---herdsmen, yurts, horse backriding, equestrian show you have to pay 660 rmb. But if you want just the show then that's only 280 rmb. Overall experience is not that great but amazing thing is that you get to experience their food---the milk with salt and other treats made of milk.

Ulan Lake is located in Alxa Left Banner, Inner Mongolia, China. After crossing the vast desert that seems to connect heaven and earth, but before losing your way due to signal loss, you'll discover a scorching-hot oasis surrounded by sand dunes. ☀️🏜️ 
In Mongolian, "Ulan" means "red."❤️ This salt lake releases a type of carotenoid🥕 pigment, and the higher the temperature, the more it releases. Therefore, under the sunshine☀️, the lake water appears vividly red♦️. The lake resembles blood, and white alkali flats spread like veins, shimmering in the sunlight. Traveling around China is a wonderful experience! You meet a great diversity of cultures, landscapes and amazing sightseeings! Just 6 hours by bus from Beijing and you will feel like on the other part of the world. Inner Mongolia meets tourists with its unique traditions and a lifestyle. People are very friendly. We had an opportunity to watch the show about Mongolian traditions. It was very interesting. In the late evening there was a show by the fire outside, on the field. Then we spent a night in yurts ⛺️. That was an interesting experience! Recommend it for people who are tired of the city life. #bucketlistreboot

Solo trekking through the Tengger Desert in Inner Mongolia. This was a surreal, unreaĺ, immensely difficult task but remains one of my proudest accomplishments to date Located in the far Northwest of China the Tengger Desert is a vast empty area of wilderness there is nothing around except for desolate sand. However this doesn't mean it's without charm. It's actually nice in it's own way. With a real sense of nature. Would you rather sleep inside a modern Yurt or camp in a desert? Why not do all of them? Ride a horse, ride a camel, stay in a yurt (with hot shower), camp in a desert, and experience a totally different side of China in Inner Mongolia! Inner Mongolia 内蒙古, Nèi Měnggǔ or in Mongolian: Öbür mongɣul, is a Mongol Autonomous Region in northern China, whereas Outer Mongolia is a separate country to the north of China. We visited the Xilamuren grassland, Kubuqi desert, and I extended the trip to stay overnight in Hohhot -a surprisingly VERY modern and thriving city (they have large malls and shared-scooter, not bike!) Be ready for some long bus ride during the trip, the area is huge! We were only visiting a tiny bit of Inner Mongolia, the birthplace of Genghis Khan. There are definitely a LOT more to see. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. Tips: for best experience (with clear starry sky night during your desert camp), plan your trip when in non-rainy months! Oh, and get ready to be a cat during your camp in the desert. Just gotta say, it’s a giant litter-box, if you know what I meant. Getting There - take a flight to Hohhot and take a connecting bus ride to the grassland / desert area. Attractions - Mongolian Yurt, Mongolian horse ride, Desert camping, and lots of fun! Hotels - Hohhot has a lot of modern hotels, but obviously you’ll need to find those Yurt hotels. Food & Restaurants - Mongolian foods typically very meaty: lamb, beef, and its produce: milk, yogurt, cheese; and also hotpot! (warning: their milk tea is salty; need to ask for sweet version). Shopping - Traditional trinkets & souvenirs. The Ulan Hada Volcano Group, also known as the Liandanlu Volcano（Alchemy Furnace Volcano）, is located in Chahar Right Wing Banner, Ulan Qab City, Inner Mongolia. It is more than 400 kilometers from Beijing and has a total area of 65.9 square kilometers. I visited with a tour group. We opted to go by train. The train ride was roughly a little over 2 hours. We then took an additional 2 hour bus ride to the volcano. I was surprised as to how popular this site is. We were greeted with a long line of traffic and an alarming amount of visitors. When planning your trip to this site, pay keen attention to your itinerary to see what it allows. The walk to the top of the volcano is roughly 30 minutes, depending on your hiking skill set. I must warn you that the unofficial hiking trail is made of pebbles that make it really difficult to hike up without slipping a couple times… so hike at your own risk ⚠️ At the top of the volcano you’ll be greeted by a breathtaking view so it’s definitely worth the risk. if you’re a nature lover then this site is perfect for you! Feel free to walk around and explore this beautiful space. You can even mix things up a bit by ordering space suits that are available on site for rental (approximately 150-250 rmb). Inner Mongolia is definitely a worthwhile trip. I went during the Labor Day Holiday with a tour group called Joy Tours, so it was easy to get around.  We went to Xilamuren Glasslands and even though the grass was not as green (due to the season), it was still very beautiful and refreshing see so yurts sitting on an endless landscape, blue skies and animals grazing the fields. We were greeted by the Mongolians with a white bowl of white wine (Báijiǔ) which we had to take a sip, and treated to lunch. We watched an equestrian show performed by Mongolians, then later rode a horse (very slowly) on the grasslands. There was a show and bon fire in the evening at our yurt accommodation. One of my favorite moments was being greeted by the millions of stars, and ended up stargazing for the rest of the night. We also visited the Kubuqi Desert which was lovely but very windy, and didn't get a lot of time to experience it. My partner and I then missioned alone to Ordos, and visited the "Ghost City", as well as Genghis Khan Mausoleum. The "Ghost City", to me, did not feel like a ghost city but rather a city that has potential to thrive in the future. The Genghis Khan Mausoleum was absolutely beautiful and his name is clearly still being honored by many. It was very interesting to see how two cultures still co-existed in this area: Chinese and Mongolians, although majority of the population were Chinese. Both languages were used and displayed on every sign. Mongolian culture is very interesting: different, yet has similarities to other cultures. #tripaway Fantastic streets around the temple with a large number of stalls selling allsorts. Another street has a number of small cafe type shops. The temple was very very impressive and free. If you look at the Internet, the meaning of the word "Ordos" in Mongolian is mostly interpreted as "a place with many palaces", but there is no period in history where there are really many palaces. After deep communication with the locals, I found that the more reliable explanation may be the southern grassland. Erdos is located at the southern end of the desert, and its Mongolian pronunciation is similar to that of Ordosuo. - Perhaps this is the true origin of the word Erdos. D1: Kambash New District Kambash New District is a high-tech development zone located more than 30 kilometers southwest of Ordos, about half an hour drive from the airport. When you enter Kangbash, you will find that everything here is exceptionally advanced every building is as grand as the Great Hall of the People. The Ordos Museum Museum is divided into several different exhibition halls, of which Halls 2, 3 and 5 are recommended for viewing. Hall 2 is the Ordos Paleontology Exhibition, Hall 3 is the Ordos Mongolian History and Culture Exhibition, and Hall 5 is the farming, nomadic, collision, and blending Erdostong history exhibition. Geerle Ama This is the most distinctive Inner Mongolia restaurant. It is all in a variety of interior styles. Even the waiters are all Mongolians. D2: Ulan Mulun Lake Musical Fountain Kambash's Ulan Mulun Lake Musical Fountain is the world's largest musical fountain and the tallest fountain that can be sprayed to 209 meters. Genghis Khan Mausoleum Genghis Khan Mausoleum, the locals are called Chengling, the original Genghis Khan's crown, and the Dahlite has been guarding. The equestrian show equestrian show takes place at Nadam Square, southeast of the Genghis Khan Mausoleum. The Mongols are really a legendary horseback nation. This wonderful equestrian performance is really thrilling, and it is a sweat for them. The venue of the marriage show wedding show was performed in the big yurt of the Brakhot Hotel near Nadam Square. The Ordos wedding is very unique and the program can last for a few days.

Inner Mongolia Moerdaoyu National Forest Park is located in Hulunbeier City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, covering an area of 148,324 hectares. It is adjacent to the Hulunbuir Prairie in the south and the Ergunajiehe River in the north. Mordao Fuyuan Ecological Forest Tourist Area is China's last cold temperate bright coniferous virgin forest. It is the northernmost place in China, the longest sightseeing route, the most complete forest ecological diversity, and the most abundant species. The National Forest Park is an emerald set in the top of the cockscomb of the motherland.

Suddenly, I had a urge to visit Inner Mongolia, so the three of us flew from Nanjing to Hohhot. Knowing it was the off-season and we didn't have much time to explore the grasslands and surrounding areas, we still came with great enthusiasm, unlocking another province in our lives. Temperature: Around 0 to -8 degrees Celsius This temperature isn't actually cold. While Jiangsu is known for its damp cold, this is more of a dry cold. With clothes, scarves, and masks, it's fine. The indoor heating is on nicely, so I wouldn't recommend wearing too many layers. A thick base layer + a fleece-lined sweatshirt or sweater + a long down jacket should be enough. Our weekend itinerary: Day 1: 7:20 PM flight. Arrived at the hotel at 9:30 PM, checked out the night view, and had some barbecue skewers for a late-night snack. Day 2: Lots of walking, eating and sightseeing along the way, which the kids enjoyed. Walked from the hotel to Kuanzhai Alley (some snacks) → the popular Qingkai Bridge (check out the landmark with inscriptions) → Grand Mosque → Xilituzhao Temple → Dazhao Temple → Sai Shang Old Street → Guanyin Temple → Nanhu Lezhong Ice and Snow World → Dinner Day 3: Mengliang Folk Culture Park (wanted to see yurts, but it was just okay; bought some local specialties; a bit far from the city center, very few people, not recommended) → Inner Mongolia Museum (currently off-season, surprisingly no reservation needed, close to the airport, the last stop of the trip) Hotel Recommendation: Near Xinhua Square, fairly convenient, around 300-400 RMB. Food preferences vary, so I won't recommend specific restaurants, but the lamb and dairy products were quite good. The Grand Mosque, with its centuries-old charm nestled among blue bricks and gray tiles, and the Dazhao and Xiaozhao Temples, offer a glimpse into Mongolian and Tibetan culture. Buying mini Mongolian yurts, sipping coffee, and browsing souvenirs in the old street of the city was truly delightful. We sampled authentic Mongolian cuisine, including local delicacies like shumai and mutton; the lively, down-to-earth atmosphere was incredibly comforting. We even took the kids to play in the artificial snow, experiencing the passion of a northern winter. Throughout our trip, Hohhot proved to be a city steeped in history yet warm and welcoming. The beauty of this city lies in every scenic spot and cultural corner.
