2024's first trip
Discovering surprises in the attempt
Mr. and I drove from Shanghai to Pu'er in Yunnan, passing through Guizhou three times, only visiting Weng'an. This time, heading back to Pu'er for work, we decided to tour Guizhou first.
First experience with a customized group tour
Giving a 10 out of 10 for the airport pickup yesterday at noon
Signing the contract on time gets a 9 out of 10
Very satisfied with the hotel upgrade and the first day's experience
Departed at 7 a.m. this morning because Xiaoqikong was closed for maintenance, so we went to Maolan scenic spot instead. Having seen many of Yunnan's landscapes, I found it quite ordinary and think it could be skipped.

Why do I always like to go to these unpopular tourist spots in Qiannan
Because it's more primitive here, there's always something unexpected to gain;
Because the people here are simple, without calculating intrigues;
Because there are few tourists here, no need to squeeze for check-in photos;
Because it has the ethnic style, historical figures, and rare herbs I want;
Because my world is too impetuous, I want to find a place to be quiet, to experience the return to the original.
Dongmeng:
This used to be one of the poorest villages in Guizhou, without electricity or internet, and the transportation was backward and blocked. But now it's much better, but the village is still very primitive, there is no convenience store in the village, only the mobile 'goods Chang'an' comes to sell irregularly. In the village, you can only see a few old people working and children playing at the entrance of the village.
Yao Mountain:
White Pants Yao, Two Pieces Yao, I also saw it for the first time here. This is not a male farming and female weaving, it is a matriarchal society. Women work during the day to weave and dye cloth, and men drink and play with birds during the day. Every man here will keep a bird, it is said that they believe that the bird is their lover in the previous life, so the bird cage is almost inseparable. The Two Pieces Yao is for the convenience of breastfeeding, it has to be said that mothers are really great! With the advent of the Internet era, it has gradually lifted the curtain of the mysterious Yao Mountain, allowing outsiders to come in and insiders to go out...
Maolan:
Perhaps everyone knows Guizhou's emerald - Libo Xiaoqikong, but few people know the secret of the emerald - Maolan
The water here is like jade, the trees here grow wildly, on the road, in the water, around the cave, here you can see squirrels, lizards, precious wild orchids, you can experience the combination of karst landform and tropical rainforest, this is Guizhou's classic hiking holy land. Guizhou Maolan, a paradise for hikers
Maolan Nature Reserve, secluded in the mountains, has a quiet and beautiful scenery. The reserve is full of overlapping peaks, dense vegetation, and crisscrossing streams. Because it is a national nature reserve, there has been no large-scale development. The several tour routes recommended by the scenic area each have their own characteristics, with different difficulties. You can explore caves, or you can trek along the stream.
Route 1: Trekking along the stream
Wuyan Bridge——Qinglongjian——Qinglong Waterfall——Qinglong Pool
Trekking down the stream, you can see the most essence of Maolan. The water in Maolan is a clear ice blue that is rarely seen elsewhere. The stream rushes down from the mountain, sometimes splashing into snow, sometimes flowing into the underground river, and finally converging into Qinglong Pool. This route is short in distance, low in difficulty, and suitable for everyone to hike.
Route 2: Cave exploration
Black Hole——Jiudongtian——Shenxian Cave——Jinshi Cave
Except for Jinshi Cave, which has been developed, the other three caves are undeveloped natural caves. You need to hire local villagers as guides (we five people, the cost is 100 yuan, the guide provides headlights). The original cave is pitch black, and there are stalactite wonders formed over billions of years inside. Although it is not as good as Zhijin Cave, it wins in the fun of wildness and adventure.
3. Stream waterfall trekking
Huangyang Gully——Latan Waterfall——Crab Gully——Water Forest
Latan Waterfall is the key point, but the water volume is small when it does not rain. The overall scenery is not as good as the Jiulongxi route, but the journey is short and suitable for everyone to try.
In addition, there are Shishang Forest——Haixi Botanical Garden route, Swallow Cave——Caogu Forest——Wild Orchid Valley——Funnel Forest——Wangpai Mountain Down route, the latter route requires a professional outdoor guide to lead the way, suitable for outdoor enthusiasts with ample time and physical support.
Accommodation: There are local people living in the Maolan scenic area, and most of the homestays are run by villagers. The conditions are limited, and the meals are local specialties, which are moderately priced. If you have plenty of time, it is recommended to stay in the mountains for one night, watch the sunrise and sunset, or the misty clouds.
Transportation: You can drive into the scenic area and park near Wuyan Bridge. The connection between the attractions relies on the scenic area's battery car, which is very convenient.

Reverse Travel | Que Niao Miao Village - The Forgotten Planet Village
| Que Niao Miao Village - The Forgotten Planet Village. If you've never been to Qiandongnan, or to the ancient Miao Village, then take a trip to "Que Niao Village" to satisfy all your imaginations about the appearance of Miao Village and the traditional life of Miao people.
"Que Niao", in Miao language, means "the source of green", located in Fangxiang Township, Leishan County, Southeast Guizhou. This village has a history of four to five hundred years of building villages. Because it is located in the Leigong Mountain National Nature Reserve, there is almost no development and construction here. The place with the strongest commercial atmosphere is the village's grocery store.
Compared with popular destinations like Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, almost no one will put Que Niao Village on their travel list, and even locals need to search repeatedly in their minds to remember its location. However, this little-known village has long been included in "Lonely Planet".
Standing at the high point at the entrance of the village, looking around, a stream runs through the village, hundreds of stilted buildings are built along the mountain, golden terraces surround the whole village, and the protective forest planted by the ancestors protects the safety of the whole village.
Here, villagers still live a farming life of sunrise and sunset. In the season of spring sowing and autumn harvesting, they still carry farming tools and crops on their shoulders and hands. They greet everyone with a smile, and their lives are plain and satisfied. Although they don't speak the same language, they always warmly invite "outsiders" to their homes for meals.
Here, everyday life is sleeping, dazing, taking pictures, fishing, picking tea, making tea, cutting rice, picking chestnuts, picking wild fruits... Life is leisurely, and the whole person becomes lazy and soft.
🚍How to get there:
1️⃣Train/High-speed rail: From the departure place to Kaili or Kaili South Station;
2️⃣Bus: Take a bus from Kaili to Leishan County, and then transfer to a bus to Fangxiang Township (Que Niao Down) (one bus each in the morning and afternoon), it is recommended to confirm the departure time with Leishan County Passenger Station in advance.
PS. Self-driving cars can navigate directly to "Que Niao Village".
🏨Accommodation recommendation:
Homestay: "Stay One Night"
Price: 190 yuan/person (including three meals, seasonal ingredients, super delicious)
PS. This homestay is run by the young couple "Xiao Niu" who returned to their hometown. The first floor has a kitchen, activity room (also living room and dining room), living room, the second floor is the guest room, you can see the mountain view from the window, and the small balcony can also enjoy the sunrise and sunset. In the traditional stilted building, there is also a negative first floor, which has been transformed into a public toilet, shower room, and handicraft experience area. They also organize experiential study activities on farming culture and traditional dyeing and embroidery.
Last words:
Because of work reasons, it is difficult for us to travel off-peak during long holidays, but if we can find a treasure-like niche travel destination and carry out "reverse travel", it is also a kind of luck. The popular destinations are crowded with people, and the experience is self-evident. The meaning of travel is not to check in, take pictures, and post circles to prove that you have been there, but to simply enjoy the travel itself and the whole process.
