Jiangbulak Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
It's so beautiful that if you can't go to Yili, you should at least visit Jiangbulak once
Jiangbulak means 'the source of holy water' in Kazakh.
I personally think it's the most worthwhile grassland landscape to visit around Urumqi.
Compared to a self-driving trip to the Ili region in northern Xinjiang,
it takes about 3 hours to drive from Urumqi to Jiangbulak.
You don't need a very long holiday.
A two-day one-night stay or even a day trip can be achieved.
➡️ From distant mountains, forests to canyons, grasslands...
These natural elements blend in Jiangbulak,
It has a bit of the vibe of the Sky Grassland Karajun.
➡️ On the hillside, the herders' simple wooden huts,
Cattle, sheep, and horses can be seen grazing by the stream,
Isn't this the dreamy Qiongkushitai Grassland?
➡️ Standing on the viewing platform of the grand canyon,
Although there are no large rocks for contrast,
It already has the taste of the Guozigou Bridge, right?
📸【Jiangbulak·Photo Shooting Strategy】
🌾 'Tianshan Wheat Sea'
In August, the romantic waves of wheat unique to Jiangbulak are a sight to behold! When the weather is clear and you have plenty of time, wait for a beautiful sunset in the wheat field.
🛣️ 'Tianshan Strange Slope'
It looks like a downhill, but if you park the car in neutral, it will go backwards! After experiencing it, don't rush to leave, ⚠️📷 a little further ahead is my parking spot 🅿️1️⃣ for the shot.
🛤️ 'Flower Sea Child'
A ten-minute walk on a plank road where you can hang a wish lock. The view along the way is great, with lots of little yellow flowers and dandelions. ⚠️📷 The end of the plank road is a hidden photo spot, with snow-capped mountains, spruce, grasslands, and winding roads, making for beautiful pictures! On the other side of the road is where I took the photo of the sunlit golden mountain.
🌲 'Jiangbulak Grand Canyon'
There is a helicopter sightseeing experience here. Standing on the upper level of the viewing platform and photographing people on the lower level, the background of spruce and canyon is the most like the photo spot of Guozigou Bridge.
🏠 'Hexing Wine & Shop'
⚠️📷 This is also considered a hidden photo spot in Jiangbulak! Those who don't stay might not stop here, but the wooden houses behind the mountain are really photogenic~

Day 5 of Xinjiang Trip 2019: Qitai → Jiangbulak → Karamay City, the City of Petroleum
Qitai County is about 50 kilometers from Jiangbulak, a 45-minute drive.
We arrived at the scenic area parking lot at 10 am, bought tickets, and drove into the scenic area ourselves. There are parking lots at each scenic spot along the road, so you can stop and take a look whenever you want, or just drive by if you prefer.
In Kazakh, 'Jiangbulak' means 'the source of holy water'. It is located at the southeastern edge of the Tianshan Mountains and the Junggar Basin, in a temperate semi-humid climate, nurturing one of the earliest and most well-preserved oasis cultures.
As a continuation of the Tianshan World Natural Heritage site, the main attractions include the Tianshan Wheat Sea, Tianshan Strange Slope, Flower Sea, Jiangbulak Grand Canyon, Broken Bridge, Xinhur River, and more.
The first stop inside, the most stunning Tianshan Wheat Sea, is determined by the terrain in terms of the size and direction of the wheat fields, forming a natural crisscrossing wheat field of thousands of acres. The wheat field landscape changes with the seasons, presenting a large-scale earthy artwork distinguished by clearly demarcated color blocks, known as China's most beautiful wheat field.
The Tianshan Strange Slope is 290 meters long and 80 meters wide, running from north to south, and is locally known as the 'reverse slope'. When driving downhill from north to south, the car needs to increase power, but when it reaches the bottom of the slope, the vehicle automatically drives uphill in neutral with the engine off. In some parts, water flows from lower to higher ground, creating the magical phenomenon of 'easy uphill, hard downhill' and 'water flows backward on rainy days, and cars need to accelerate when going downhill'.
No matter from which angle you look, it is an obvious slope. At the Strange Slope attraction, there are bicycles prepared for tourists to personally experience the charm of the Strange Slope.
On May 17, 2005, after an on-site inspection by the headquarters of the Guinness World Records in Shanghai, a certificate was issued, and the 'Tianshan Strange Slope' with its 290-meter slope length was recognized as the longest strange slope in the world.
Jiangbulak Grand Canyon has an average altitude of 1900 meters and stretches for 15 kilometers. The most prominent feature of the canyon is the interwoven scenery of birch and maple forests. The different colors of the forests change with the seasons, and the sunlight directly affects the depth of the colors in the canyon. There is also a viewing wooden walkway built in the canyon, which is very steep and looks like it shoots straight into the sky from a distance, hence it is also called the 'Cloud Ladder'.
In Jiangbulak, you can just find a spot to sit and jump far away, and the beauty of nature will leap before your eyes, breathtaking and refreshing, a place where you can sit quietly for a whole day.
There are restaurants and accommodations in the scenic area. If you stay here, you can experience the beauty of Jiangbulak in the early morning.
We left Jiangbulak at 4 pm for Karamay City, a total of 530 kilometers to Jinjiang Inn (Karamay Petroleum Building Bairui Plaza Store). It was already past 11 pm, and the sun had just set. The restaurant opposite the hotel was still very lively, with many people just starting their dinner.
The night in Xinjiang comes particularly late, and now it's time to get used to this kind of life.

Xinjiang: The Jiangbulake where the wind blows through the wheat fields
In Jiangbulake, you meet the 'guardians of the wheat fields'
Vast wheat fields, blue skies, white clouds, and yurt forests together create a romance that is uniquely Xinjiang.
Jiangbulake is located in Changji Prefecture, more than two hundred kilometers away from Urumqi (it is measured right after landing at Urumqi Airport, immediately renting a car to Changji, without leaving any itinerary in Urumqi city, which does not affect the subsequent travel within Xinjiang); the scenic area is 50 kilometers away from Qitai County and the drive takes less than 1 hour.
Warm Tips:
① In addition to the main roads, you can also go down some small paths in the scenic area, many beautiful places are not accessible by scenic area vehicles, you can choose to join a tour group for convenience or drive there yourself
② There are local herdsmen in the scenic area, horse riding and taking photos cost 10-20 yuan.
③ There is accommodation inside Jiangbulake, if you want to see the stars and watch the sunrise and sunset, you can choose to stay inside.
④ The higher you go in Jiangbulake, the colder it gets as you enter the mountains, and the wind is quite strong on the mountain, so be sure to bring a thick coat, and try not to wear short skirts and the like~
⑤ There are many stopping points within the scenic area, be sure to pay attention to the traffic when taking photos, and be safe~

Xinjiang Jiangbulak
| Travel Destination | Xinjiang Jiangbulak
① Attraction Introduction: The Jiangbulak Grassland is located in Qitai County, Changji, Xinjiang, and is a national 5A-level tourist attraction, about 250 kilometers away from Urumqi. Personally, I think if the itinerary is tight and you can't make it to places like Nalati or Xata, this place is also quite good, with snow-capped mountains, grasslands, flocks of sheep, and starry skies, satisfying the imagination of Xinjiang's grasslands.
② About Accommodation: There are two relatively mature hotels in the scenic area to choose from, one is Jiangbulak Hotel (Jiangbulak Tourist Distribution Center), and the other is Hexing Hotel. There is also a Ma'anshan Ethnic Style Park, which is all felt tents. We chose Jiangbulak Hotel, which is located opposite the Jiangbulak Grand Canyon, with a superior geographical location, built in a small pine forest, with acceptable accommodation conditions, clean and refreshing, with hot water, and equipped with heaters in the rooms. The downside is that the service attitude is very average, and also because it is a wooden structure, the sound insulation is not very good. The room includes breakfast, from 9:00 to 9:30, which is basically the shortest breakfast time we have encountered. If we come again next time, we might stay at Hexing Hotel. Out of curiosity about felt tent accommodation, we also went to the Ethnic Style Park for a visit. The owner was very enthusiastic and showed us the inside of the felt tent, which has a semi-circular kang with a table on it, and a coal-burning iron stove at the entrance. The felt tent does not have a separate bathroom, which makes washing up inconvenient, but the advantage is that it is cheap, with a ten-person felt tent costing only 400 yuan per room even in the peak season.
③ About Travel: I highly recommend self-driving, as the sun in Xinjiang in June is already very strong, and the days are long. The distances between scenic spots are very far, and each spot only has an open-air stop like a bus station. Waiting for the bus at the stop can be quite uncomfortable, and the shuttle bus only stops at a limited number of attractions. The deeper parts of the grassland can only be reached by self-driving. The sunset we shot this time was taken by driving to a small hill and then walking up. We were the only ones on the entire hilltop with the cattle and sheep, and the sense of vastness came out instantly.
④ About Dining: Some stops will have dairy snacks for sale. Starting from the Jiangbulak Grand Canyon stop, some subsequent stops should have simple meals for sale like yellow noodles and cold skin (I just saw the sign, did not purchase). You can also dine at Ma'anshan Ethnic Style Park, which offers barbecue, stir-fried dishes, and pilaf. We solved one dinner here. If you are staying in Jiangbulak, it is recommended to bring some self-heating rice, instant noodles, and other food supplies, as I did not see such fast food for sale in the scenic area.
About Playing: Jiangbulak has the famous attraction Tianshan Mai Lang, but June is not the season to enjoy the wheat waves, and it still looks more like green grass now. Camel riding and horse riding are what the children are interested in, with camels at 50 yuan per round and horses at 70 yuan per round, led by someone and very safe. Additionally, there are traditional Kazakh costumes available for wearing, with adults at 30 yuan per set and children at 20 yuan per set.
