A Hidden Spiritual Oasis
#visithongkong
Tucked away amidst the bustling streets of Hong Kong lies a hidden gem of tranquil spirituality, the Man Mo Temple. Stepping into this ancient sanctuary feels like entering a portal to another time, where the scent of incense weaves through the air, and a hushed reverence envelops all who enter.
Located in Sheung Wan, the Man Mo Temple is a captivating testament to the city's cultural heritage. Built in 1847, it pays homage to two powerful deities—Man Cheong (the God of Literature) and Mo Tai (the God of Martial Arts). Intricately carved wooden screens, colorful ceramic figurines, and giant hanging incense coils adorn the temple, creating an atmosphere of mystical charm.
To reach the Man Mo Temple, one can easily take a short walk from the Sheung Wan MTR station, allowing travelers to seamlessly blend the old and new sides of Hong Kong. Whether you are a culture enthusiast, a history buff, or simply in search of a serene oasis amidst the urban chaos, the Man Mo Temple promises an enchanting experience that will leave an indelible mark on your journey through Hong Kong.

Michaela (@uncoveringcities) MAN MO TEMPLE
As you stroll down Hollywood Road, you will smell the incense from the Man Mo Temple long before you see the building. The temple was built in 1847 and is often remembered for its smoke-filled interior, where incredible coils of burning incense hang from the ceiling.
Here, worshipers pay tribute to Man, the god of Literature, and Mo, the god of War. For those looking to see into the future, fortune-tellers are on-site and will advise you for a small fee. Note, there are multiple Man Mo temples throughout Hong Kong, but this location on Hollywood Road is the largest and most famous.
Address: 124-126 Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

Our first day in Hong Kong was absolutely incredible! We booked a walking tour that took us to some of the city's most iconic spots. We marveled at the beauty of St. John's Cathedral, learned to write Chinese characters, and visited the serene Man Mo Temple. To top it all off, we enjoyed a delicious Michelin-starred tea. Our Hong Kong adventure is off to a perfect start, and I rate the experience a 10/10!
