🇮🇩 Parhallow Viewpoint overlooking Lake Toba, Samosir Island
We stopped by Parhallow Viewpoint and Coffee Shop for lunch during the tour around Samosir Island, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The viewpoint is about 7 km and 15 min drive from Tomok Ajibata Port. It is a scenic spot and coffee shop which offers breathtaking views of Lake Toba, one of the largest volcanic lakes in the world formed by a massive volcanic eruption approximately 74,000 years ago. The restaurant serves simple local delicacies and a variety of beverages, including locally sourced coffee and tea. There was a coffee plant right next to our table which my guide pointed out to me.

🇮🇩 Hot Spring at Aek Rangat, Lake Toba
Aek Rangat is a well-known hot spring located on Samosir Island in Lake Toba, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Situated on the western shore of Samosir Island, Aek Rangat offers beautiful views of Lake Toba and the surrounding landscape. The hot springs at Aek Rangat are naturally heated by geothermal activity. The mineral-rich waters are believed to have therapeutic properties and provide a relaxing experience.
The larger bath house was not open during my visit. The guide brought me to a small restaurant next to it which had a tiny pool with hotspring water. Aek Rangat offers a natural and rustic experience so the facilities are basic. It would be good to bring your own supplies.

🇮🇩 Lakes Within a Lake, Samosir Island
I got the opportunity to visit two lakes within a lake during my tour around Samosir Island. The concept of "lakes within a lake" refers to smaller lakes situated on islands that are themselves located within a larger lake. This unique geographical feature is present in Lake Toba, North Sumatra, Indonesia, which contains two notable smaller lakes on Samosir Island: Lake Sidihoni and Lake Aek Natonang. Both lakes are surrounded by lush greenery and offer a tranquil and picturesque setting. The calm waters and natural surroundings provide a perfect spot for relaxation and photography.

🇮🇩 Stroll around Tuk-Tuk, Samosir
Tuktuk Siadong is a small village is located in a small cape in Samosir Island. I arrived in Samosir Island at noon. After checking in to my hotel, I decided to explore Tuk-Tuk on foot since I had no other means of transport. The village was about 2 km from my hotel. There were many hotels in Tuk-Tuk. Some of the hotels facing Lake Toba had private beach and nice views of the lake.
I bought some souvenirs at few of the souvenir shops in Tuk-Tuk. Many shops sell wooden sculptures of batak houses. Do get some
keychains of batak houses for your loved ones
when you are there!

🇮🇩 Stay in Traditional Batak house by Lake Toba
During my visit to Samosir Island, I stayed two nights in a traditional batak house. There was no air-conditioning but Samosir is generally quite cool at night. I thought there would be lots of mosquitoes but luckily there were not. Overall it was a pleasant stay.
Ambiance/Facilities:
Basic amenities provided in room. No TV and air-conditioning.
Highlights:
Magnificent view of Lake Toba right at my doorstep! I woke up early to catch the sunrise 🌅🌅

🇮🇩 Sunrise on Lake Toba @ Samosir Island
Lake Toba is a tranquil haven located in the northern part of Sumatra, Indonesia. It is one of the largest volcanic lakes in the world formed by a massive volcanic eruption approximately 74,000 years ago. It spans about 1,145 square kilometers and reaches depths of up to 505 meters.
The lake's serene and picturesque setting is complemented by Samosir Island, which lies in the middle of Lake Toba. Samosir Island itself is almost as large as Singapore and is known for its traditional Batak culture, scenic landscapes, and charming villages. During my stay in Samosir Island, I had the chance to experience breathtaking sunrise on the lake right outside my hotel room by the lake.

🇮🇩 Ferry Rides between Parapat and Samosir, Lake Toba
There are a few ferry terminals in Parapat offering ferry services to different locations in Samosir Island. The hotel staff dropped me off at the newly built Pelabuhan Ajibata. The new ferry terminal seemed to offer higher-end ferry services to tourists and I was told that there was no ferry available that day. The staff I approached at the new ferry terminal directed me to a small port next to it. That's the port where locals take local ferries to and fro Samosir.
And so I boarded the local ferry from Pelabuhan Ajibata to Tomok (Rp 12,000). The ferry runs regularly so there is no need to buy tickets in advance. The ferry conductor will collect ticket fees from the passengers one by one.
The ferry looked quite old and rundown but no complaints since the fare was so cheap. There was no air-conditioning too. There were also vendors selling snacks on the ferry.
I sat at the open deck to immerse myself in the beauty of Lake Toba and took lots of pictures! It's definitely an eye-opening experience for me. One should try to take the local ferry instead of the premium ferry for a truly local experience in Lake Toba regions!

🇮🇩 From Medan to Lake Toba by Bus
Taking public transport from Medan to Lake Toba may not be the most comfortable and convenient way but it is definitely doable. I took a local bus from Amplas bus terminal in Medan to Parapat. It was a 4 hours ride from Medan to Parapat through winding and narrow roads especially towards the end of the ride. As my hotel was located along the main road, I asked the bus driver to drop me off at my hotel but unfortunately he dropped me at the wrong hotel so I had to walk around 2 km to my hotel. Luckily a kind local gave me a ride on his motorbike.

🇮🇩 Stay in Parapat by Lake Toba
I spent one night at Gapura Hotel in Parapat, a small town in North Sumatra on the edge of Lake Toba, before taking a ferry to Samosir Island the following day. My hotel room was facing the lake and the view of Lake Toba was priceless.
The hotel is situated along the main road. The view of Lake Toba along the road was amazing! However the road conditions were bad. There was literally no space for pedestrians to walk. I felt quite unsafe walking on the road as I had to walk very close to the edge to avoid being run over by passing vehicles and constantly keep a look out for vehicles behind me. There were many stalls and small restaurants along the main road. Most of them offer a very nice view of Lake Toba and the prices were cheap.

🇮🇩 Dining by Lake Toba in Parapat
Parapat is a charming town located in North Sumatra, Indonesia, on the eastern shore of Lake Toba, one of the largest volcanic lakes in the world. Known for its scenic beauty and relaxed atmosphere, Parapat serves as a popular gateway to Samosir Island, which is situated in the middle of Lake Toba. The ever-changing Lake Ashi is as cold 🥶 as the Chengchuan Art Museum, and the beautiful scenery from afar is worth it. The strong wind blows away the clouds ☁️ on the snow top of Fuji. Queen Ashinoko Cruise 🚢 on Lake Ashi Patiently waiting for the reward,
one can also see the charm of the ivory carving art of our country. In the big bird residence of Hakone Shrine, there is a big lake wave, and finally, we accidentally stumble into a century old Western restaurant.

Budget Travel in Paris 🇫🇷
#paristrip
Visiting the City of Lights can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be.
The best way to see the city is on foot, and it’s totally FREE! Almost every single street has charming buildings or leads you to an iconic view of all those places you’ve heard about: the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, or Norte Dame.
Strolling along, you have the chance to see real Parisian life: the bakeries and cheese shops, the green grocers and cafes. Then, when you’re tired after a long day of walking, hop on the metro back to your hotel. It’s extensive and very affordable.
Sights to add to your free walking tour:
🇫🇷The Louvre Museum and I.M. Pei’s glass pyramid
🇫🇷Check out the post-fire reconstruction at Notre Dame
🇫🇷Watch the evening light show on the Eiffel Tower
🇫🇷Stroll along the Seine at sunset

Dazzling Dubai on a budget
#dubaitrip
Dubai is a city of superlatives. Home to the world’s tallest building, largest mall, and biggest Ferris Wheel, Dubai if full of opportunities for entertainment. Some activities come at a steep price, but there’s plenty to see for free over a long weekend this winter.
Free activity ideas:
🇦🇪 Go see the Museum of the Future. In our opinion, the most beautiful building in the world. This torus shaped building can be seen from the train line near Burj Khalifa. Exit the metro at the Museum of the Future Station to walk through a unique tunnel and see it’s equally impressive lobby. Tickets to exhibits are around 40 USD, but seeing the lobby and exterior are free!
🇦🇪Hop back on the train to Burj Khalifa. Follow signs toward the Burj fountains to get this iconic view of the world’s tallest skyscraper. If you want to take a break, there are numerous restaurants surrounding the fountains with great views of the Burj. Stick around until after the sun goes down to see a fountain show. As of December 2023, they begin every half hour from 18:00-23:00.
🇦🇪 After the fountain show, eat dinner next door in the Dubai Mall, the world’s largest! While not a free activity, you’ll want to get some rest after a long day on your feet. There are dozens of restaurants to choose from, ranging from fast food to fine dining. We headed for the Chinatown section of the mall to eat at Haidilao and get snacks from the Chinese food court.
🇦🇪The next day, take a stroll through old Dubai to see the gold souks. If time permits, see if you can take the ferry to Downtown Dubai. We missed the last one, but for only 14 USD, you can get a 90 minute sightseeing cruise past the Palm and Dubai’s glitzy skyline.
🇦🇪 End day 2 at JBR beach for dinner and a drone show. This holiday season, Dubai puts on a drone show at 20:00 and 22:00 each night. There are plenty of restaurants nearby. Going after December? There won’t be a drone show, but check out the lights on the world’s tallest Ferris Wheel!
It’s twice the height of the London Eye!

Grindelwald: A crime if you miss it!
Get here by train! We came via Basel and just enjoyed the scenic views from the huge train windows. Lake, villages, mountains, you won’t want to close your eyes!
Coming here in early autumn, we escaped the crowds and could explore First, Eiger, and Jungfraujoch with ease and little wait time. The mountains are magnificent all thru the year! The colours of the landscape will change and hiking to the Balchapsee is an experience in itself. Discovering WCs in the middle of nowhere, up
in the mountains, complete with toilet tissue is something only the Swiss can guarantee!
There are many hotels in this little village and all are within walking distance of the train station. We stayed at the Eiger Aparthotel as we wanted to prepare our own meals to save cost. Bookings come with daily afternoon tea and the variety of cakes, teas and coffees were an absolute treat!
There are many cafes around for fondue and all sorts of local delights. We opted to explore the two supermarkets for raw ingredients and cooked up our own dinners at a fraction of the cost of eating out. Do check out the different yogurt flavours, types of cheese, and cured meats too!
As it is a tourist destination, you can get souvenirs and major brands here. There is a post office (to send postcards) and some banks if you need forex.
My #2023travelwish is to drop by this beautiful place again in the SUMMER and take in the wonders of creation ❤️

🚲 Cycling around Anuradhapura
The UNESCO world heritage site of Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka is justifiably famous, but sadly the extortionate ticket prices put it out of our budget. Instead, we enjoyed a lovely day cycling around the less famous ancient temples centred around a beautiful tank (reservoir) to the south of the main park.
One of my favourite things to do when travelling is to hop on a bike and explore on two wheels. Anuradhapura is pretty flat so it's easy to cycle around, and you get a much more local experience, while also saving money/ hassle on tuktuks.

(Rp 60,000) If you are taking the bus from Kualanamu Airport to Medan city (Rp40,000), take note that the bus may not stop right at Amplas bus station. Lake Toba Samosir Island, a tranquil haven
I planned a last minute solo trip Lake Toba after I decided to call off the trip the Cambodia due to the current situation. I chose to fly from Kuala Lumpur to Medan as the flight ticket was the cheapest. Lake Toba caught my attention after a quick check on Google map. Isn't it the world's largest crater lake that I learned about in high school Geography?
Getting There -
Take the bus from Amplas bus terminal to Parapat. (Rp 60,000) Then take a ferry to Samosir Island from one of the few ferry terminals in Parapat. I took the ferry from Pelabuhan Ajibata to Tomok (Rp 12,000)
If you are taking the bus from Kualanamu Airport to Medan city (Rp40,000), take note that the bus may not stop right at Amplas bus station. I had to ask the bus driver to stop in the middle of the road and walked 20 min to the bus terminal. I think the new bus terminal is still under construction. The current terminal is made up of a few pondoks (stalls). No facilities there.
Attractions -
Check out the last two pictures. I happened to pass by what seemed like a tourist information centre when I took a walk through Tuk-Tuk area. The poster shows quite a lot of attractions in Lake Samosir and the neighbouring regions which I can't seem to find much information on Google. I picked a few attractions and toured around half the island on a motorbike. It's a pity that I can't ride a bike so I hired a local to take me on the bike tour for one day. (Rp500,000)
Attractions visited:
Huta Siallagan, Batu Kursi Raja Siallagan ( Stone Chair of King Siallagan )
Batu Passa and Liang Sipogu
Beaches which include Sigurgur, Parbaba Beach, Pasir Putih
Aek Rangat (supposed to have a hot spring but it was not open. The guide brought me to a small restaurant next to it which had a tiny pool with hotspring water)
Bukit Burung (It's a lookout point further up the hill from Aek Rangat which many locals not know about. Happened to chance upon it on Google map. Even my guide didn't know about it!! So it was quite an accomplishment to bring him to a place that he had never been!)
Lake Sidihoni
Danau Aek Natonang
Batu marhosa
Air Terjun Sigarattung (Sampuran Na Pitu)
Parhallow viewpoint and coffee shop
Hotels - Hotel Tuk-Tuk Timbul
Stayed two nights in a traditional room. No air-conditioning but Samosir is generally quite cool at night. Thought there would be lots of mosquitoes but luckily there were not. Overall it was a pleasant stay.
There were many hotels and homestay which seemed to be deserted. I guess the tourism in Samosir has not really fully recovered.
Shopping - There was a shopping streets in Tomok with hundreds of stalls selling similar souvenirs. business was not good as there were not many tourists so just beware of over desperate vendors pestering you to shop.

Bustling Morning Streets of Pratunam
Staying in Pratunam and up early in the morning? Head to Pratunam Market at 9 in the morning where majority of shops are already open. This is a major market in Bangkok selling clothes, shoes, and fashion accessories at wholesale prices. The prices here are unbeatable comparing to the other markets like chatuchak, or even night markets as many locals flock here to do their shopping for clothes and shoes here. This place is also filed with so many tiny shops that it's normally overflowing the walkways as well.
The market is located in small and back little alleys, and you will find yourself in a maze after awhile and possible get lost too!
To get to this place, head to the intersection of Ratchaprop and Petchburi roads or enter via Soi Phetchaburi 19 Road. This is also a shopping and budget friendly area for many!

Big Malls Located east of Bangkok City
When travelling to Bangkok most people ideally stays at Chit Lom or Siam due to its close proximity of malls, but this means hotels are at a higher price!
For a budget travel, you can always stay away from this places and stay at either Asok, Sukhumvit or Phrom Phong.
These area also has several big malls located just beside the BTS Station. For Asok, there is terminal 21 which I s a 9 story mall that consists of designer brands, international cuisine, a gourmet supermarket, boutique shops, and more. Each floor is decorated based on a "world's best-known shopping streets" theme. Like the last floor, it's known as the Pier 21(Sanfransico)
Emquartier and Emporium is both located at Phrom Phong which is an upscale mall with luxurious brands, restaurants and bakeries which is worth a visit. There is also a sky cliff located at the top of Emporium where you can enjoy a rare, spectacular panoramic view from the heart of Bangkok on the 45th floor and also a 5 story indoor waterfall as well. The total square metre of this 2 malls are of 2.5million square metres which will definitely run you dry if you are someone who love shopping.
So check out trip.com for deals on hotels around these area, also these places have generally lesser traffic, so if you take a grab or a tuk tuk the jam wouldn't be as treacherous as being in Chit Lom or Siam.

🇮🇩 Nice Batak Food by Lake Toba
I had late lunch at Maruba Restaurant when I was exploring Tuktuk Siadong, a small village located in a small cape in Samosir Island. The restaurant is situated along Jalan Lingkar Tuktuk. I was the only customer there after the previous customers
left. The restaurant serves traditional batak food in a modern setting. Batak cuisine, originating from the Batak ethnic group of North Sumatra, is characterized by its bold use of spices and local ingredients, making it a unique and flavorful part of Indonesian culinary traditions. I ordered beer battled fish & chips and tamarillc juice. The food was flavourful. The restaurant also offers stunning views of Lake Toba.

Travel with me to Switzerland for £8
Had an amazing trip to Geneva for only £8 with British Airways through Trip.com. Had an amazing time and got to experience soo many new things. The food and chocolate was amazing. Geneva is indeed expensive however using public transport saved us loads and we also got to visit a lot of amazing monuments. I would recommend visiting Bain bleu. We spent 6 hours there and we could have even spent more time tbh, thats how amazing it was. Lastly i would recommend speaking to your hotel and asking for recommendations for food spots or having a look on tiktok.
Most people spoke English and we used good translator for when we needed to speak french. #geneva #Trippingwithnancy #budgettravel

In between flight booking during early this year, I like to express best satisfaction with sky angkor air. Staffs are nice, and also very polite. We have staff helping us or old people to putting bags inside the over head compartment. Aircon are nice and not too cold but we feel more breath inside the aircon which I notice most of airplane are a little less aircon these days. Thank you so much for good service. #airplane #travelguide #traveltips #cambodia #budgettravel
