A Place Worth A Visit: Fort Santiago Manila
If you are travelling to Manila, Philippines and you are looking for a great place to spend half of your day, then Fort Santiago is definitely a place for you. Fort Santiago is one of the best historical places to visit in Intramuros, Manila. Here you can see a small museum dedicated to Jose Rizal, one of the most revered figures in Philippine history, a small chapel, a well-preserved grounds and such.
Been here many times already since I went to one of the schools in Intramuros. Certainly a must-visit place. Admission fee is 75php for adults and the place is worth the price!

A quick tour around Intramuros
AAnnother one off my bucket list.
A 14-hour layover in Manila gave me a chance to do a quick tour around Intramuros. I honestly haven't been around Manila, so I was happy to go out for a bit. I arrived quite early at around 9 AM and so I was able to feel like I have a place for myself. I just walked around the area as I feel like

Take a leisurely stroll within the walls of Intramuros and take it all in! The monumental Manila Cathedral takes centerstage, a mandatory visit for all architectural enthusiasts. Take a closer look at intricate carvings on ceilings and wooden doors. Admire majestic pipes of church organ against stained glass. Obsess over old buildings at every turn. And then, a modern mural…

🇵🇭🏰Fort Santiago🔝INTRAMUROS/Manila
One of the most famous spots is Intramuros, which prods visitors to remember the Spanish colonial era.🏰Fort Santiago, built in 1571, is a citadel built by Spanish navigator and governor Miguel López de Legazpi for the newly established city of Manila in the Philippines🇵🇭. Fort Santiago has become a famous tourist destination as it presents how Filipinos were tortured during the spot where Fort Santiago now stands was once a Muslim kingdom ruled by a chieftain named Rajah Sulayman. When the Spaniards landed in the Philippines in 1571, they destroyed the site and built a fortress instead. The fort was destroyed in 1574 during the Chinese attack led by Limahong.
The stone fort was built between 1589 and 1592 and was repaired and extended after being damaged by the 1645 earthquake.
In 1762, the British came and ruled until 1764, using Fort Santiago as their headquarters. The Americans then arrived in 1778 and renovated the fort which became a U.S. Army Philippines Division Command Center. And in 1942 during World War II, the Japanese conquered the Philippines and made use of the fort as their military base and prison. It is said that they have imprisoned and tortured about 2,500 to 3,000 Filipinos and Americans on the site. The U.S Military turned over the bastion to the Philippine Government in 1946, and it was announced as a Shrine of Freedom in 1950.

✅Another historical landmark🏛️. One of the things to add to the Intramuros itinerary🔝. The Baluarte de San Diego is a fabulous park containing beautiful gardens and historic fort remains in Manila✳️. Baluarte de San Diego is a spade-shaped bulwark located inside the historic district of Intramuros in Manila City. This fort was created from the remains of the upper portion of a circular watch tower built from 1586-1587.
Since it was constructed, Baluarte de San Diego underwent a series of repairs and restorations after getting damaged during wars and an earthquake. The baluarte had been breached and fallen in 1762 during a battle with the British forces. After the occupation, it was restored, only to fall again due to an earthquake in 1863. Then it was once more destroyed in the Battle of Manila in 1945. The fort's most recent restoration work was completed in 1992.
Today in Manila, this has become a popular tourist spot. The place is well maintained. The entrance for adults is 75 pesos. great place to take photos with the lush gardens as background.❇️✴️✳️

The amazing history of Intramuros in Manila
Intramuros is the old city of Manila, and where it all began! This was the site of where the Spanish colonisers established their fort that would later become the basis of Manila. I recommend taking a bike tour to cover ground more quickly, while enjoying the insight of a local guide. It is also a chance to make some new friends!

🇵🇭🧱Inside the wall -INTRAMUROS🧱🇵🇭
If you want to know about Manila's history, there's no better place to be than in Intramuros. The name Intramuros means “inside the wall.” Located south of the Pasig River and east of Manila Bay, the Walled City of Intramuros was built by the Spaniards some 400 years ago as their political and military base in Asia. It is one of the top tourist spots and the oldest district in Manila.
This is what remains of the fortified city, which was the seat of power during Spanish Colonial times (1521-1898). The city is surrounded by trenches and medieval walls with 7 gates. You can experience the city by taking an ancient horse carriage, tricycles, or walking around. I made my own tour, strolling around for 5 hours. The whole area is walkable. Here you will enjoy the elegance of Spain as it preserves the architectural features of ancient times. There are many attractions to visit, including Manila Cathedral, Casa Manila Museum, St. Augustine Church, Fort Santiago, and many more. After World War II, all buildings inside Intramuros were destroyed, with only the San Agustin Church left standing. It's worthwhile spending a leisurely day exploring the whole of Intramuros.

Intramuros - Back to Manila's old days
Intramuros is one of the top sites in Manila. It is an old walled city built during the Spanish era. Today you can still feel the charm as the buildings are well preserved. There are so many important sites including Manila Cathedral, San Agustin Church, and Fort Santiago. Actually buildings along the streets of Intrumuros are already interesting.
It is located on the north side of Metro Manila. I stayed at a hostel in Ermita booked through trip.com, so I walked there through Rizal Park. You can get there by LRT Line 1 (Central Terminal Statino) or take jeepneys plying along Taft Avenue or Bonifacio Drive. Before you reach the wall, you will pass vast golf course surrounding Intramuros.
