The Head of Dragon is here 🐲 | Stone Dragon Hill
#tripxplorproject
Finally, I hiked Stone Dragon Hill. It wasn't a difficult hike; it took around 30 minutes to reach the top. At the summit, you'll find the iconic rock formation depicted in the first picture. There, I saw the Dragon's Head Rock, a stunning geological marvel evoking myth and reality. Upon reaching the summit, I was greeted by an awe-inspiring panorama that stretched across Penang City. The view was particularly enchanting as the sunset painted the sky with vibrant hues. It served as a mesmerizing escape, captivating me with its incredible scenery. On my way back home, I stumbled upon a durian farm managed by an elderly man. There, I indulged in the best durian I've ever tasted in Malaysia, and it happened to be the cheapest one I've found :D. Amidst the orchards, amidst breathtaking vistas, I found solace and a profound connection to nature. It was then that I realized I had discovered a slice of paradise in Penang.

Oldest Church In Penang, Malaysia
#tripxplorproject
Stepping onto the sacred grounds of St. Anne's Sanctuary, I felt a blend of anticipation and reverence. The journey to this revered site was marked by a mix of excitement and solemnity, as if each step brought me closer to a place of profound significance.
As I approached the weathered chapel, its presence seemed to beckon me forward, urging me to immerse myself in its storied history and timeless spirituality. The origins of St. Anne's Sanctuary can be traced back to 1833, when Chinese and Indian migrant workers arrived from the Batu Kawan area in Penang. French missionaries from Batu Kawan came to Bukit Mertajam to minister to the Catholic families in the area, eventually leading to the establishment of the sanctuary.
Inside, the scent of incense filled the air, mingling with the soft murmur of prayers that echoed through the sacred space. Wandering through the tranquil gardens, I marveled at the statues of Passion and the graceful architecture that surrounded me. Each corner of the sanctuary seemed to hold a piece of the past, a reminder of the enduring legacy of faith that had brought me here.
Leaving St. Anne's Sanctuary, I carried with me a sense of peace and renewal, grateful for the opportunity to have experienced such a sacred place firsthand.

The most Haunted Place in Malaysia
#tripxplorproject
Nestled within the verdant landscapes of Penang, amidst a tapestry of palm oil plantations in Nibong Tebal, lies a silent witness to a bygone era - Caledonia House. This grand colonial mansion, with its stately columns, symmetrical balusters, and imposing porticos, stands as a testament to the opulence of its time. Constructed in the 1840s for the illustrious Ramsden family, pioneers of the sugar industry in Port Wellesley, Caledonia House exudes an air of aristocratic elegance. This architectural marvel earned its moniker, "The 99-Door Mansion," owing to its sprawling layout adorned with 10 rooms, each boasting five or six doors. However, the shadows of history cast a pall over Caledonia House, particularly during the tumultuous years of World War II. Serving as the headquarters of the Japanese army during their occupation of Malaya, the mansion bore witness to the ravages of war.
Yet, it was in the aftermath of conflict that tragedy struck. In June 1948, John St Maur Ramsden, the scion of the Ramsden dynasty, met his untimely demise within the hallowed halls of Caledonia House. The echoes of his footsteps upon the grand staircase were silenced by two fatal shots, leaving behind a veil of mystery and unanswered questions. As the years passed, the once-thriving plantation fell into disrepair, succumbing to the relentless march of time and nature's reclaiming embrace. Rumors swirled around the dilapidated mansion, weaving tales of tortured souls and otherworldly encounters, perpetuating its mystique.Today, Caledonia House stands as a haunting relic of a bygone era, its weathered facade bearing the scars of time and neglect. Despite calls for restoration, the fate of this enigmatic mansion remains uncertain,
mirroring the enigma of its elusive owner.

Malaysia Penang - Boutique Hotel in a Century-Old Mansion: The Edison Hotel
The Edison Hotel in Penang is a boutique hotel renovated from a century-old mansion (built in 1906). Underneath its pure white European exterior, it retains the original atrium courtyard, exuding an antique charm that at first glance might be mistaken for a museum.
The hotel is conveniently located opposite the former residence of Cheong Fatt Tze, the richest man in Southeast Asia, known as the Blue Mansion. It is within easy walking distance to everywhere. Close to the Red Garden Food Paradise and Chulia Street Night Market, you'll never run out of food options.
The hotel's interior has been refurbished, with high ceilings that make for a comfortable and clean living space. The decor is exquisitely elegant, especially the staircases, which are incredibly photogenic. The lounge offers complimentary snacks and a welcome glass of red wine.
The most affordable deluxe room with a large bed for two, including breakfast, costs about 4000 New Taiwan Dollars; even the most expensive suite, which is 60 square meters and includes breakfast for two, is only a little over 6000 New Taiwan Dollars, making the prices quite reasonable.
Longest Reclining Buddha in Malaysia !
#tripxplorproject
During my visit to Wat Chayamangkalaram in Penang, Malaysia, I was captivated by the rich history and vibrant culture that permeated every corner of this ancient temple. Established in 1845, its roots delve deep into the past, tracing back to a diplomatic gesture between the British Empire and the Siamese Rattanakosin Kingdom.
As I wandered through its sacred grounds, I couldn't help but feel the weight of centuries of tradition and reverence. The temple's architecture, adorned with intricate details, spoke volumes about the devotion of its founders and the generations that followed.
One of the highlights of my visit was encountering the magnificent reclining Buddha statue, Phra Chaiya Mongkol, which spans an impressive length of 32 to 33 meters. Its sheer size and intricate craftsmanship left me in awe, and I couldn't resist marveling at the smaller statues of Buddha and Devas that adorned the main prayer hall.
But beyond its architectural wonders, Wat Chayamangkalaram holds a deeper significance as a cultural hub for the annual Songkran, Loy Krathong, and Vesak Day festivities. These vibrant celebrations bring together people from all walks of life, uniting them in the spirit of joy and spiritual renewal.
My experience at Wat Chayamangkalaram left a lasting impression on me, not only for its physical beauty but also for the sense of peace and tranquility that permeated its atmosphere. I urge anyone seeking a glimpse into Malaysia's rich cultural tapestry to visit this sacred temple and embark on their own spiritual journey.

A little journey for Milo George Town Penang KL 🇲🇾
#malaysiatrip
I spent a day and a half in Penang and didn't explore many places. Firstly, the weather was scorching hot ☀️, and secondly, I wanted to soak in the urban vibes and lifestyle of Penang on the streets 🏙️. Penang gives me a more welcoming feeling, with its strong Nanyang style, old buildings, colorful houses, and abundant Chinese signs 🏮. The locals, including taxi drivers and shop owners, warmly invite you to experience the Chinese New Year atmosphere in Penang 🧧.
The people I've met here are very friendly and as the Chinese New Year approaches, the festive spirit is palpable 🎉. Penang is a perfect city for leisurely walks, offering a comfortable stroll in the city center where you can snap photos anytime 📸.
It always looks amazing in pictures! There are plenty of small shops and cafes waiting to be discovered along the streets. To truly immerse yourself in Penang's rich history and culture, staying here for a longer period would be ideal 🌆.

Solo Chill at Budget in Georgetown, Penang
#hotelreview
A Budget Hotel Review.
For this whimsical trip, i know that the hotel i will stay will essentially just for sleeping. And as a person that don't really like room mates i chose a hotel that have a solo room with bath; and i found one at Grand Swiss hotel.
The rate for a night is around 25 SGD, which is within the budget.
I got a room in the 2nd floor, with no window but it is doable. The aircon is cold, they got water heater and the beddings is clean.
For the location, it was on Chulia street which is walking distance to all the tourist spots, and near KOMTAR as well (where you can alight from the Rapid bus 402E from the airport).
I say, it's a decent hotel for those on budget and will just stay for a day or two and will always be out and about

Crispy morning walk in Georgetown, Penang
#weekendgetaways
As someone from the province, Sunrise is oone of my favourite time of the day, with the cool crispy morning air(from a tropical girlie) it was a perfect time to walk around.
And in Penang, i think the morning is also a good time to see the city, free from traffic and numerous tourist roaming the streets.
Sunrise in Penang is around 7:30 - 8:00 AM, and i think the timing is just perfect, you can walk on the streets easily, set your tripods to take your pictures and you can take your time to do your poses and shots with no one is waiting for that certain spot.
Georgetown certainly looks like a sleepy town at the morning but does wake up in afternoon to night time.

First Trip of the year!
In the spirit of last year’s 11.11 i sorta impulsively booked a solo trip in Penang, Malaysia. As a first solo trip, i chose a destination close to singapore, with a flying time of 1 hr and 15 mins. it is pretty close.
One of my stop is the Pinang Peranakan Mansion, which is a well preserved mansion that houses artifacts, antiques and architecture of the old times. The details ate very intricate, a true craft of an artisan of the past.
I visited early in the morning, just as they open at around 9:30am, and the people haven’t flowed in yet.

A whimsical 30-hr trip to Georgetown, Penang
#thingstodo
Itinerary guide from a georgetown first timer
(30 hours+ stay only)
So last 11.11 sale, i had a whimsical purchase of a good priced tickets (from Trip) to Penang from Singapore.
And so for one of the weekend in January i flew from Changi T4 to Penang Interantional Airport.
Upon landing, I was contemplating if i would take a Grab (RM 25+) from Airport to my Hotel or take the bus to the city center, luckily when i stepped out of the airport doors, i saw an incoming Rapid Bus 401E coming to the bus stop, and so i ran to catch it~ the fare was only RM 2.70, what a good deal!
The travel time was around an hour, and i alight at Komtar. Since is was past lunch time, i ate on one of the nearby shopping malls around. After i was done and shopped a bit, i took a Grab to my hotel nearby for RM 5.00.
So this was my plan for the trip:
After Noon Plans (after 5pm)
📍Penang Hotel
📍Penang Esplanade
📍Fort Cornwallis
📍Walk aound the city
📍Back to Hotel
📍Dinner and Drinks at nearby bar at Chula st.
📍Sleep
Morning Plan (8am to 12nn check out)
📍Walk around to see street arts (after sunrise)
📍Breakfast
📍Pinang Peranakan Mansion
📍Walk around some more
📍Hotel Check out at noon
📍Lunch at China House
📍Art Lane
📍Grab to Queensbay mall (for shopping)
📍Grab to Penang Airport
And that's it, that was how i roughly spend my trip~

One of the attraction of Georgetown, Penang is their famous streetarts.
The city centre itself is very walkable, you can wander the streets freely. And i suggest starting this walking trip at around 8:00 in the morning, the air is still quite chilly and the people on the streets are few.
I started my journey on Armenian street and goes from there.
Some of the famous arts i spotted were:

🎨Little Children on a bicycle
🎨Boy on the motorbike
🎨Brother and Sister on a swing
🎨Old Soy Milk stall

If you're looking to host a family vacation in Penang, Angsana Teluk Bahang is a great place to stay.
Firstly, there's the family interconnecting rooms with a pantry available in the bigger room for food prep, and a sitting are for the kids to play.
For breakfast, there's a dedicated corner with kid's meal with food kids love such as nuggets, etc and placed at kid's height. This is such a thoughtful gesture! They even provide special kids cutlery.
Facility wise, with 2 pools located at different ends, the separation makes it great for both adults and kids. The wading pool with a slide is located next to the kid's club section, while the infinity pool catered more for adults allow for a leisure swim. There's also activities for the kids in the afternoon which the kids love. They even allowed us to borrow sand castle building tools to the beach which was directly accessible through a foot path.
We would definitely be back again for our next family vacation!

🥗 A Unique Thai Tea Affair 🍵
#hiddengems
Weekend getaways would not be complete without a relaxing tea time at the hotel for a tete-a-tete with the family.
And unlike typical tea sets we were accustomed to with sandwiches and other finger food, the Afternoon Thai Tea Affair set at Cascade- the lobby lounge at Amari Spice, offered a pleasant surprise.
The tea selection included 'miang kham'- a traditional Thai appetiser which we missed and loved! We also love the otak-otak spring roll! This was followed by popcorn chicken with tomato salsa, tuna poke bowl, scones, cakes, tarts and mango mousse topped with generous mango bites. We opted for TWG tea instead of bobba milk tea to ensure our palette were cleansed between the savoury and sweet snacks.
I have to say, my partner and dad who both do not quite enjoy the typical tea time desserts found this tea selection appetising and were both fully contented. Mum is recommending her friends, so you know what that means.
For those who prefer a unique tea time, this tea set is perfect for you. Try it out. This is a hidden gem for tea time!

The food portion was big and the set meal which includes either a soup or the day or dessert was worth the price (RM 18-RM22). There's also a 3 course meal which includes soup of the day, mains and dessert or drinks.
We hade the Kunyit Fried Chicken and Thai Red Curry Fish, which were both served with chicken satay. The fried chicken was succulent and the red curry fish was good. For desserts, we love the very rich and creamy sago gula melaka. Most of all the service was great. Mr Jamal was attentive and very friendly.
We'll be back to try their tea set and lunch set.

Stunning Nine Emperor Gods Temple
#hiddengems
One of the largest temples in Butterworth, The Tow Boo Kong temple is dedicated to the Nine Emperor Gods and Mazu, the goddess of the sea.
While tourist usually visit temples on the Penang Island, this temple located at Butterworth should not be missed.
Do not be fooled by the humble frontage of the temple. The temple complex is big and the carvings on the pillars and walls are intricate. Beautiful murals flank both sides of the walls and there's a hug dragon sculpture within the temple.
We understand that at night, lanterns fill the temple, making it a magical place.
