Taroko: The marble gorge of Taiwan
#wheretogo #taiwan #taroko ##hualien
Recently, I have had the privilege of visiting the Taroko National Park in Taiwan. Also known as the Marble gorge, it is a natural wonder that beckons travelers from around the world for a myriad of reasons. Inhabited for centuries by the Truku tribe and stretching 19 kilometers, it's a treasure trove of geological marvels and lush landscapes.
Some of the must visit spots include Wun Tian Siang Park, which offers panoramic views of the gorge. Buluowan is another captivating stop, where visitors can explore the indigenous culture. Meanwhile, the Shakadang Trail showcases the mesmerizing Shakadang River, its crystal-clear waters cutting through marble walls.
Whether you're a nature enthusiast or a history buff, Taroko Gorge offers a diverse array of experiences. A shuttle bus runs regularly between the attractions, making it an easy recommended day trip from Hualien.
Swallow’s grotto (Yanzikou) Trail
#exploreasia
One of the must visit when you come visit Taroko National Park. As the name suggest, many swallows forge and play among the rocks that was formed over tens of thousands of years.
The marble was sculpted over the years by the Liwu river running across, with many potholes that pockmark the grotto. The unique structure was indeed the magnificent work of mother nature.
We were lucky to spot a resting swallow and boy it was cute. According to the guide, the number of swallows have decreased over the years so we were lucky to see a few having fun at the grotto.
Safety of the public is of utmost importances so all visitors are required to wear a helmet. Falling stones can be due to animals or rain, hence unpredictable.
The trail is suitable for all as it is flat all the way through and relatively short. Nevertheless the view was great!

Exploring Taroko - Shakadang Trail!
#exploreasia
Shakadang trail or also know as Mysterious Valley Trail is one of the trails located in Taroko National Park. It is a trail by the river cliff but it is not too difficult. I personally did not manage to finish the trail due to the lack of time.
The view was stunning. From the entrance of the trail, you get to see the Shakadang river leading down to the Liwu River. We were lucky to see the jade green waters at the Shakadang trail as we went after typhoon which caused most the main streams to have murky waters.
It would be good to wear a pair of comfortable walking / hiking shoes and do take note you might get wet at some areas.
10/10 for the view!

My first trip to Taroko Gorge ✨
🚌 Getting There - From Hualien Bus Station, theres’s a bus every 1 hour going to few destinations in Taroko. I took Bus 310 and stopped at Tian Xiang Village then go down stopped in a few destinations (we can use Bus 302 if we waited too long) but getting back to Hualien Station, we have to use Bus 310. Please aware this bus is very full when we got back from Taroko to Hualien.
🎡 Attractions - A few attractions we visited is Tian Xiang Village, ChangChun Shrine, Tunnel of Nine Turns, Buluowan Terrace, and Yanzikou Trail.
🏨 Hotels - Im not quite sure where to stay in Taroko but i heard there’s a hotel called Silks Place Taroko and its quite expensive but luxurious since its a 5 stars hotel. But im staying in Hualien city in a new built hotel named Full Kind Hotel or 福康大飯店. My hotel doesnt have any nice views such as beach side etc but the room is very nice, high ceilings, modern, affordable, and breakfast was okay so furthermore 8/10 would recommend.
📍Some tips :
• From Hualien Train Station, you can go to Hualien Bus Station and asked the Visitor Center if there’s a free shuttle bus (event from July to August if im not wrong).
🍔 Food & Restaurants - Near 福康大飯店 there’s Dongdamen Night Market only around 7 mins walk. We eat some seafood there but i guess the taste is very mid and nothing special.
🛍 Shopping - Try to shop some local delicacies in Hualien and the most known one is their mochi. I bought mine in Tzen’s Mochi since there’s so many branch of them so i thought ill tried their mochi but it turns out the mochi is super good. I choosed to bought a peanut mochi 花生since its the og.

Taroko National Park - Taiwan
#passionpassport
Taroko became a national park in 1986, including Hualien City, Nantou County and Taichung City. Taroko is famous for its spectacular mountains and marble canyons. Cliffs and canyons stretch along Liwu River. Four million years ago, the island of Taiwan was formed by the collision of plates. After millions of years of wind erosion, the marble rocks were exposed and cut by Liwu River, creating impressive grand canyons. From Qingshui to Nanhu Peak, the drop height is 3,742 meters. Such special geography has also bred special flora and fauna in this area.
