Overlooking the entire Caohai, the water surface was like a mirror reflecting silver light, and the grass in the water looked magically animated, like something out of a cartoon—so beautiful it didn’t seem real. The kids excitedly held my hand, saying, “Mom, this place is so beautiful!” It happened to be Friday, and we saw many cars with Guizhou license plates along the coastal road. Many families came to enjoy this wonderful time. People set up tents by Caohai and the viewing area, starting delicious picnics. The smell of barbecue mixed with children’s laughter. There were even newlyweds taking wedding photos—such a romantic scene. Caohai is now an ecological reserve, so you can no longer take boats from the dock like before, but this is to better protect the black-necked cranes here. Before heading out, I searched for Asilixi Chive Slope and Erlipo, which are both crowded. I couldn't book a car to Wumeng Grassland, and I saw villagers blocking the road, so I was afraid there would be nothing to do there. I gave up and chose this lesser-known place, and it was the right choice! I drove from Bijie, and it took about 1.5 hours to drive 100 km on the highway. The scenery along the way was beautiful! I navigated to Baicaoping, and after exiting the highway, I drove on a winding and narrow mountain road. There were occasional oncoming cars, but the road wasn't too difficult to drive on. Just be careful. After reaching the (abandoned) visitor center, I continued driving up to Baicaoping. Both cars and people can enter for free. Climb to the top for a view: After parking, you can hike to the top along the grassland, or you can walk around and see the animals like I did. There are many herds. The area is large enough for camping, but I didn't see any water sources or toilets. You can set up a canopy and stay for a while. If you plan to stay overnight, it's similar to wild camping.
