Due to work commitments preventing me from traveling out of the province, my friend and I decided to explore a summer resort within Ningxia and ultimately chose Jingyuan County in Guyuan City. Just a stone’s throw from Liupan Mountain National Forest Park, it surprised us beyond expectations—with cool mountain breezes, simple and honest local customs, and hearty farmhouse dishes, this trip left me, a traveler forced to stay within the province, deeply moved. An Unexpected Cool World While most regions are enduring scorching heat, Laolongtan in Jingyuan remains comfortably cool. Waking up in the morning, you might even need a light jacket. The average summer temperature here is only about 18°C, truly deserving the title of the “natural water tower” on the Loess Plateau. Laolongtan is located 20 kilometers south of Jingyuan County town and is the source of the Jing River. Geologically, it is a grand canyon formed by mountain faults during the Yanshan and Himalayan orogenies. The area features high mountains and deep gorges, lush greenery and clear waters, elegant pine paths by the pools, and cliffs with jagged rocks on both sides, creating a beautiful landscape of mountains, water, forests, and stones. The Four Pool Wonders of Laolongtan Laolongtan consists of four pools, each with its own characteristics. The waters of Laolongtan flow through Shaanxi, Gansu, and Ningxia provinces, passing 28 cities and counties, winding 530 kilometers before joining the Wei River in Gaoling County, Shaanxi. Standing at the source of the Jing River, watching the clear spring water gush from underground, is an irreplaceable experience. Practical Travel Tips Transportation: It takes about 1.5 hours by car from Guyuan City to Jingyuan County, then about 20 kilometers from Jingyuan town to Laolongtan. Yuangudui Village is located in Weiyuan County, Dingxi City, Gansu Province. It is located in a mountainous area at an altitude of 2,400 meters. Due to inconvenient transportation, it used to be a poor village. Today, with the support of the local government, the villagers of Yuangudui can finally sell the lambs they raise and the agricultural products they grow with great effort all over the country! Today, in Yuangutai Village, cement roads run smoothly in and out of the village. The newly built two-story buildings and freshly painted old houses are clean and tidy, a complete departure from the dilapidated and dirty scene of the past. Many young people like us come here to visit, and this small village is gradually becoming known to more city people. There is a sea of ​​flowers in the village. It is just the right season to go there. Many newlyweds take wedding photos here. There are also many small second floors and small "villas" that provide accommodation in homestays. The prices range from economical to light luxury. You can choose according to your preferences. There is a small parent-child farm where you can bring your children to experience rural life on weekends. Of course, what makes this place popular is also the destination of my trip - Shengyuan Villa Sika Deer Breeding Base. This is the fairy place I mentioned, known as the Little "Nara" of Gansu. The sika deer in the park are all on the mountain and move freely beside the streams. The deer here are very docile and not afraid of strangers. They will not attack people if you feed and touch them normally. However, do not bring food to feed the deer yourself. There is an old man at the door. The entrance fee to the deer farm is 10 yuan per person.
