Kurokawaonsen Yamamizuki

It’s an old but serene place to have an Onsen retreat.  It has another sister building next to it where guest here can share another outdoor onsen there for different vibes. Beautiful Japanese landscaping and outdoor onsen by a water fall and river. I found the changing room at the onsen a bit lacking in toiletries. Meals are provided at private dining  rooms. Location as said, a bit secluded and far from town, and the drive in was a single lane road.

We had a wonderful stay at Yamamizuki in Kurokawa. Everything was lovely, especially the onsen with its beautiful river views—a perfect place to relax. What truly made our stay special was the exceptional staff, particularly Sato. I accidentally left my laptop at the hotel, and he went above and beyond by delivering it all the way to our next hotel in Aso. We were so grateful for his kindness and effort. Superb service and genuine hospitality. Thank you, Sato and the Yamamizuki team, for such a memorable experience. Highly recommended!

Impeccable service, they were ready to welcome us on check in, arranging for luggage to be carried to our rooms while quickly settling our check in and patiently explained their amenities. Staying at their hotel means we can also use the onsen of their two sister hotel’s public onsen - one just opposite and the other one in Kurokawa onsen town (featuring cave onsens). But we look the onsen in this hotel best as the outdoor onsen overlooks a river and waterfalls. Truly an amazing experience. Our stay included breakfast and dinner, and while Ryokan meals are always sumptuous, we felt the taste and variety were slightly underwhelming, but still delicious. Rooms were spacious with great amenities and ours even had a tea room. Overall a highly recommended hotel, especially if you are driving.

Location - up in the mountain, surrounded by nature. Great place to relax. Onsen - indoor/outdoor plus guests have the option to use the onsen at their sister hotel just beside the carpark. Minimal amenities in onsen. Room - a living area, coffee machine, enough space for 4 people with luggage. Staff - AWESOME! Great hospitality! From front desk to service staff at meals - Thank you for making us feel welcomed from the moment we arrived until check out. Dinner - elaborate and delicious / Breakfast - love the soup presented in a hotpot. Overall - recommended for an experience of luxury in a natural setting with awesome service.

It was a super memorable trip and really no regrets. Onsen quality was excellent and we were surprised to be given access to a couple of sister onsens. service was superb and we appreciate the private transfer to and from the town centre itself. Dinner is very good too!

Fantastic 2 nights stay.  It’s an oasis from the world, an escape from the hustle bustle of everyday life.  Classic ryokan, but tastefully updated with all the modern amenities.  The staff are extremely nice and welcoming, arranged pick up and drop off ahead of time.  The food is delicious and beautifully presented.  There are many options for indoor and the outdoor baths, with tranquil views of the river and waterfalls.  10/10, hope to return one day.
