Outstanding

The Western Qing Tombs contain the tombs of four Qing Dynasty emperors. The scenic area is very large and best visited by car. First, head to the visitor center and hire a guide to tour the main attractions. While there are shuttle buses between the various sites, the frequency is low and the routes are unpredictable, making waiting time quite long. Sundays have a moderate number of visitors. At Tailing, you can see the complete imperial mausoleum; at Chongling, the underground palace is open to the public; at Muling, there's a grand hall built with thousands of golden nanmu trees, and over a thousand dragon sculptures in different poses. There's also an empress's tomb with a particularly effective echo wall. If you have time, you can also enjoy a stroll in the pine forest next to Changling; the environment is beautiful.
