based on 129 reviewsChengdu Zoo is located in the northern part of Chengdu city, adjacent to Zhaojue Temple. It was originally established in 1953 near Baihuatan and later relocated to its current site. It is a long-standing zoo that many Chengdu residents have visited since childhood. The zoo exhibits over 300 species of animals year-round, including mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, and ornamental fish. Visitors may encounter lions, tigers, golden snub-nosed monkeys, giraffes, elephants, red-crowned cranes, and more here.
The panda house is a popular spot for travelers upon arrival at the park, featuring glass-enclosed viewing areas where you can observe giant pandas eating bamboo or rolling around. The park has decades of experience in breeding and exhibiting giant pandas, achieving breakthroughs in artificial insemination research during the 1980s, followed by the birth of multiple panda cubs. Today's highly popular Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding originally developed from the zoo's efforts in rescuing and breeding giant pandas.
The park is shaded by lush trees with gentle walkways, making it ideal for a leisurely stroll with children. After your visit, if time permits, you can stop by the neighboring Zhaojue Temple just a wall away, combining animal viewing and ancient temple exploration in a single day.

Children are given a chance to learn how to fish with family for 30 rmb and allowed to take 2 gold fish home as a reward. All the animals are given enough space and are well taken cared of. The zoo is clean, hygienic and it's the best zoo i have even been.
