Ganden Sumtseling MonasteryAlso known as Guihua Temple, it is located at the foot of Foping Mountain, 5 kilometers north of Shangri-La. It is one of the "Thirteen Forests" built in 1679 by imperial decree of the Fifth Dalai Lama and the Kangxi Emperor of the Qing Dynasty. Built against the mountain, the temple resembles an ancient castle in appearance and is a masterpiece of Tibetan art, earning it the title of "Tibetan Art Museum". Every year on the 29th day of the eleventh lunar month, Tibetans hold the Gedong Festival here, which is mainly based on "Cham Dance" (masked dance), creating a mysterious and lively atmosphere.
