Elephant Rock

Elephant Rock rises from the golden sea of sand in Al Ula, Saudi Arabia, and is a highly recognizable natural geological landmark in the region. This red sandstone monolith stands more than 50m tall, roughly the height of a 10-story building, and was formed by millions of years of wind and sand erosion into its present shape: a massive body set among the dunes, with a pillar like an elephant's trunk that reaches the ground. From afar it resembles a giant elephant bending over the sea of sand, its contours astonishingly lifelike. The surrounding desert is also dotted with varied rock formations, such as human-face rock, mushroom rock, and rainbow rock, which together form a sweeping panorama of Al Ula's geological wonders.
