Crazy House

Crazy House is one of Dalat's iconic landmarks. Its official identity is actually a uniquely shaped hotel, designed and built by a Vietnamese female architect who studied architecture and earned her doctorate in Moscow, and it was completed and opened in 1990. The entire complex mimics giant trees remaining in a forest and stands approx. 5 stories high, with almost no straight lines or right angles. The designer admitted that the inspiration came from Gaudí and the natural environment surrounding Dalat. Many visitors, upon seeing it, are reminded of Dalí's paintings or castles from Disney fairy tales. Stepping inside feels like falling into a massive, real-life fairy tale. When visiting, you can navigate between buildings by following the tree branch staircases suspended in mid-air, climbing all the way to the top to overlook Dalat. You can also duck into cave-like corridors to explore the animal-themed guest rooms one by one. The courtyard is scattered with cement-poured tree roots and burls that intertwine with real trees. Since its completion, the house has continued to be expanded, like a castle that is constantly growing.
