Yunshuiyao Scenic Area wasn't originally called by this name. It gained widespread recognition after being featured in the movie "The Knot," which led to its renaming. As part of the Nanjing Tulou complex, this attraction has become one of the most popular destinations within the ancient earthen buildings.
The attraction includes three scenic spots: Yunshuiyao Ancient Town, Hegui Building, and Huaiyuan Building. These three sites are spread along a small river in Changjiao Town, with Yunshuiyao Ancient Village in the middle, Huaiyuan Building at the northern end, and Hegui Building at the southern end.
The most spectacular attraction here should be the 5-story Hegui Building, the largest square earthen structure. Surprisingly, it was built on marshland. The courtyard has a sunken cobblestone area that remains perpetually damp - you can actually feel the ground sway when stepping on it. Note that accessing the upper floors requires an additional ¥5 fee. The site has a strong commercial vibe with numerous small stalls packed tightly throughout.
Additionally, Yunshuiyao Scenic Area is a perfect place for leisurely walks. Here you'll find Hakka tulou (earthen buildings), century-old banyan trees, and ancient cobblestone paths. Strolling along the pebble-lined creek, watching the gentle flow of water, white ducks waddling, and willow-like banyan branches swaying, you'll truly enjoy the refreshing natural countryside scenery.

Show More ReviewsA two-day, one-night trip is a great option; it's quite pleasant and allows you to experience the charm of traditional water towns and traditional earthen buildings. The only downside is the excessive commercialization inside the earthen buildings, but overall, the scenic area is quite clean and tidy.
