The sights and stories of Portugal make port at Gardens by the Bay for its first Portuguese-themed floral display, Sunflower Surprise: Garden by the Ocean in Flower Dome. Shaped by centuries of seafaring and known for its sun-soaked coastal towns, the display captures the country's character through its maritime history, everyday traditions and agricultural heritage.
Journey through Alfama, one of Lisbon's oldest neighbourhoods, before exploring Portugal's coastal heritage through the striped houses of fishing town Costa Nova, a 6m-tall Farol de Belém lighthouse, and the bow of a traditional Portuguese carrack.
Moving inland, the display highlights Portugal's agricultural traditions through vineyards, olive groves, and cork oaks, alongside recreations of historic Porto shopfronts and Lisbon's iconic street kiosks.
Bringing the elements together are more than 5,000 sunflowers across 20 varieties, evoking the sunflower fields of the Portuguese countryside, including supersized varieties that can grow up to 1.8m tall.
Sunflower Surprise: Garden by the Ocean also commemorates 45 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Portugal, and is presented in partnership with the Embassy of Portugal in Singapore, with support from Turismo de Portugal and AICEP (Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency).
Location: Flower Dome
Period: 9 Oct-9 Nov

On May 29 this year, Gardens by the Bay's Cloud Forest will welcome a group of "ancient visitors"—life-sized mechanical dinosaurs that will "come to life" in this misty green sanctuary!
Step into the cloud forest, travelers will find themselves in a faithfully recreated Jurassic world. The 8.5 m tall brachiosaurus sculpture stands majestically, equivalent to the height of a three-story building, serving as the first breathtaking view to greet travelers.
The exhibition carefully sets up 13 themed areas, including thrilling encounters with the T. rex, close interactions with baby dinosaurs, and exciting experiences like searching for small and agile compsognathus in dense vegetation. In this exhibition, the cloud forest perfectly replicates the cool and humid climate unique to tropical mountains at altitudes of 1,000 to 3,500 m. It is home to over 72,000 plants, with more than 50 species (such as ferns, cycads, and conifers) whose lineages can be traced back to the Jurassic period. These plants once coexisted with dinosaurs and even served as their food source. Travelers can gain a firsthand understanding of the evolutionary journey of these "living fossils" and their shared history with dinosaurs.
Exhibition dates: From May 29, 2025 (Thu) 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Exhibition location: Cloud Forest
