Stone Forest Scenic Area

The Stone Forest scenic area , located in Shilin County, Kunming, is one of Kunming's key tourist attractions. It features typical karst landforms, with numerous stone peaks, stalagmites, sinkholes, and underground rivers. The peaks and forests take on various shapes, such as sword-shaped, tower-shaped, and mushroom-shaped, creating a breathtakingly beautiful landscape.

The entire scenic area consists of several sections, including the Greater and Lesser Stone Forests, Naigu Stone Forest, Dadieshui, and Changhu Lake. These sections are relatively sparsely distributed, and regular visits are mainly concentrated in the Greater and Lesser Stone Forests area.

The Greater and Lesser Stone Forests are located in the same area. Walking along the path for 20 minutes, you'll find the smaller attraction on your left, with gently sloping peaks. Amidst a dense cluster of peaks, the famous Ashima Stone stands majestically, its imposing peaks resembling a graceful Yi girl, Ashima, seemingly beckoning you. This is a popular spot for photos. Besides the beautiful Ashima, the Lesser Stone Forest area also features other unique formations such as the Divine Steed and the Clustered Stones Reaching the Sky. This is a test of your imagination! If your imagination isn't quite there yet, it's recommended to hire a guide. With their guidance, you'll gain a completely new understanding of the stone forest before you.

As you slowly walk along the road, you'll see Tang Monk Stone, Stone Prison, Phoenix Comb Wings, Lingzhi Stone, and other lifelike formations along the way, each displaying the wonders of nature in various poses.

Following the path, you'll unexpectedly arrive at the Great Stone Forest area. Passing by wonders like "Two Birds Feeding," "Rhinoceros Gazing at the Moon," "Lotus Peak," "Stone Forest Scenic Spot," and "Stone Screen," you might be a little tired. Take a short rest at Lion Pavilion and admire the reflection of the peaks in Lion Pond across the lake—a tranquil experience. After seeing so many peaks, some aesthetic fatigue is inevitable. It's time to check out the water features! Board a cruise on Stone Forest Lake and cruise on the water, where the mountain scenery and water views converge—all your stress and worries will disappear.

Naigu Stone Forest, also known as New Stone Forest or Mozhai Stone Forest, comprises stone forest landscapes, Baiyun Lake, Shifeng Mountain, and Yougu Xianpu (Secluded Valley Waterfall). Compared to the Greater and Lesser Stone Forests, it presents a different style. The peaks here are predominantly gray-black, with tall, densely packed stone pillars resembling castles, towers, and mushrooms. The ancient, rugged rocks rise like towering waves, creating a magnificent and imposing sight. Strolling through the black peaks feels like entering a wild and untamed world.
